I was considering getting a 2 gauge pod, painting it to match my interior, and mounting a oil pressure and a water temp gauge on my pillar. My question is can you still use the factory gauge? I dont want to have the original gauge sitting there limp. I was thinking of going with the Blitz gauges, they look hot.

You can get the Racing Beat adapter block. It will mount under the oil filter assembly.

WIll that address both gauges?

No. For the water temperature the best spot would be in the back of the water pump, but you'd have to remove it and tap a hole. Otherwise you could tap a hole in the filler neck.

Rob x-7 03-20-2002 06:47 PM

Otherwise I would just have a aftermarket water gauge? Electical right, not mechanical? Now Im wondering if the whole project is worth it, or if I do, should I just let the factory gauges sit limp.

If I were you I would let the factory gauges work as well. An electrical gauge would be easier to install, but the mechanical gauges can sometimes be a little more reliable. The oil pressure adapter is about $48. The water temperature gauge will be easy to do. If you don't know how to do it then bring it to me.

Rob x-7 03-20-2002 07:25 PM

I could tap the filler neck easy enough. Do you think R1 gauges are too ricey???

Many electric water temperature gauges have a 1/8 NPT sensor. Here's a drill bit chart for tapping holes if you need one: http://www.wwforum.com/faqs_articles/DrillChart.html .

r is for RICE. just get autometer they are cheap and work well https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png you can order from http://www.summitracing.com they generallly have everythign in stock

Rob x-7 03-21-2002 06:48 PM

I was going to say the R stood for ROB. Im not crazy about the R1 crapp, I love the Blitz gauges, but Im not crazy about the fact they are metric, and they are pricey. GREDDY makes some nice gauges as well, but again a bit pricey. Im leaning towards the Autometer carbon fiber gauges, and I think Im going to mount them under the radio, my car is all stock and gauges on a pod seems a bit lame to me. Not like 13b ace, who has gauges under his radio, and also on the pod, BUT HE NEEDS THEM, lol. Im actually looking for function and not just for looks, 13 year old motor in my car, wouldnt want to lose it now! I love these people with thier Honda Civics, still with the factory 14" wheels with wheel covers, with a monster tach on the dash, lol. I know Summit Racing well, I have built many a motor from them, been dealing with them for 13 years now, they have everything, even if its not in thier catalogs, call them, and they probably have it.

might be, but they are economicla, hey atleast im not getting the monster tach! :newlaugh: Thats one of the first thing ppl notice when they get in my car," whoa **** that is a huge tach, right in the middle, must be the main thing", so everyone says https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png thats right

Putting those gauges under the radio will be ok because you don't ALWAYS have to see oil pressure and watertemperature gauges. Boost gauges usually need to be right in front of you.

< You read my mind, IM saving the pillar for the day I do my engine transplant, lol. Im thinking under the radio, and of course do the treatment so it matches the rest of the painted plastic around the radio, A/C.

Rob x-7 03-22-2002 06:19 PM

The Blitz panel only fits a 43mm gauge? I was thinking of getting the 3 gauge panel, only using it for 2, but whats with the 43mm gauges? Now it looks like Ill have to make one, does anyone make a din or double din blank panel that I can cut out for my needs??

You can just get a piece of ABS plastic and make your panel from that. There are spots behind the radio surround that you can screw it into. I used to have it on my car like that, but right now it's just flopping around because I'm lazy.

I'm always right. The problem is that I sometimes don't follow my OWN advice. :tounge:

im not. I have never liked that idea, i always want to be monitoring my ****, i remember one time i was racing on the freeway, from 60-120 and i wasn't about to look down @ my temp gauge going that fast with traffic and then all of a sudden a burning smell cam through my vents, then i look down and tempo gauge @ danger zone. :wow: ya o ****, pulled over and put ice on it, it was also like 100 degres out that day.lucky nothing happened, so i will never put my gauges down there. When i go boost im gogin to put it in the corner, by the a-pillar, above the vent https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

< again, my car is all stock, I always look at my gauges, so why not look at more accurate ones. And I rarely if never beat on my car anyhow, why bother if its so slow anyhow, lol.

ya but will it stay that way?? I once intented to keep my car completey stock, look at my now? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png but in ur case, yes thats a good point, i hope u are getting autometer gauges then, cheap ones.

Rob x-7 03-24-2002 01:01 PM

Yes, autometer, toss up between the carbon fibre face, and the ultra lights. I dont really want them to stand way out, I think Ill just use a thin piece of fiberglass painted black like the outside of the car, I have sheets of it made in a mold, almost looks like sheets of formica. Maybe Ill make a fiberglass pod to go in the middle of the dash where the idiot lights are now for those guys who may want one??? Ive had my car 5 years now, still undecided if I want to turbo it, or get a TII/3rd generation and mess with that instead and keep my vert normal.

Scott 89t2 03-29-2002 06:35 PM

I wouldn't get that R1 temp gauge since it only goes to 210. temps higher then that are not uncommon on a rotary. get something that goes to atleast 240-250F

and try and keep your stock gauges working too. the other place to get water temp is to tap into the rad house, greddy makes thing for this. I think you can tap the line to the BAC vavle too. that would be easy.

Well I got the Auto Meter carbon fiber gauges, let me tell you, they look incredible, carbon fiber face, nicely polished bezels, now Ill get the block from Mazda Trix, and Ill be all set.
