So i'm taking a friend home today, driving thru his complex and i see a Blue Rx-7 sitting, only noticed the front wheels (car had car cover on ) they were S4 turbo wheels. So i kinda shrugged it off. coming back out of the complex i decide to stop and take a look. As i'm pulling in this guy maybe 28-35yr old asks me if i'm interested in this car. I said sure. Apperently he was the owner. We started talking about the car he left 6 months ago on a business trip and it hasnt been started ever since. So i ask him if we can try to get it started.. Well, no go, seems to have lost compression or something while sitting for so long. We try a couple more turns of the key, and almost get it to start, but only got a few puffs of smoke from the exhaust. So i ask how much? Mind you, car needs paint, interior smells, sunroof is rusted to hell, needs tires (left-right dont match!) needs shifter bushings.. ect..ect. It needs some work. 1500$ WTF! is this guy nuts? what can i tell the guy to get it down to a couple hundred dollars? Any idea's

you can tell him what you told us: it doesnt start, the interior smells, its rusty, and it needs paint, tires, probably needs a exaust.

I would say to pass the thing up if he wants more then $400-$500, even then its iffy comsidering you cant start it let alone drive it to check everything else.

I'm going to offer a different opinion. I paid $2k for mine, and it wasn't running, but I had a good feeling about it. The car had been sitting, but sounded like it had compression. Turned out to be flooded. It's been great, and that was over two years ago.

Granted, the body is rust-free, the leather interior is near immaculate, and when I bought it, it only had 99k miles on it.

The ONLY other T2's I've seen locally have been blown-motor beaters that the owner wants around $1500 for and won't budge. Most people who own these cars know they're not very common.

If you really want that car, and can get it for around $1000, I'd jump on it.

I bought mine for $2,250 it only had 113,000 on it at the time (2000). Of course now I have a lot of money into it. I would go for $1000 at the most! You are going to have to do some work to the car of course. What year is it? Miles??

Good advice!Try starting it a couple more times. What's the mileage on that car? There are plenty fish in the sea, look at some more before you make a decision.

it's an 87 T2 with 114k on the clock ALL STOCK. Everything is there, every nut, wire, bolt, harness that is suppose to be in that engine bay is there.
