I guess now its my turn to have a stupid problem I can't seem to pin down. Here is the problem with some history.
Replaced the fuel pump with an FD pump, changed strainer and filter at the same time. Took of UIM to fix an OMP line that had broke. New plugs were put in. Car was running stellar. Went to Deals Gap Rotary Rally. Beat the snot out of it. No problems. On the last leg of the drive home, I noticed there was a slight hesitation and the car felt like it was bogging at part throttle. Got home, took off the TMIC and UIM, noticed a bunch of cracked vacuum caps. Decided to replace all of them. Also decided that at the same time I might as well throw in some BRAND NEW injectors (I get them CHEAP). Today after work, I put in the new injectors, all new vacuum caps, new booster line. Crank it, catches, dies, repeat. Jumpered the fuel pump, flowing good, can hear it splash return into the tank. Checked the plugs, a little wet. Replaced them. Crank, catches, dies, repeat. Took it all back apart and did it all over again. Same result. WTF. Help please. |
Little more info.
AFM was NEVER unplugged. But that was the first thing I checked. I'm thinking I might have cracked the lower injector grommets when I reinstalled them. They were pretty dry and hardened. But I don't know if that will cause this or not. |
monster vac leak is my guess, taking the UIM on and off normally results in that. put some fresh silicone down between the LIM and UIM and see if it helps.
kevin. |
Well I just ordered some new injector grommets just in case. The UIM gasket it spankin new, but I have never used silicone on them, I will put some Hylomar on when I put the injectors back in.
Any other insight?? |
injector o-rings was a good idea.
check your tps maybe? kevin. |
When i put a motor in my car after it sat for 5 years (and 2years w/ no motor in it) I had a similar problem twice. The first was I forgot how/where the wires connected, It fired and was rough for about three and a half seconds. The next thing i ran into was my wire got pulled out of the connector a little so it appeared okay but it was actually about 8mm back to where it never made contact with the injector pin. Somewhere i have a post with a pic.......

if you give it any gas can you keep it alive?
mine does that with the afm unplugged, no matter what i do. but with big vacuum leaks and a misadjusted idle i could keep it running by giving it some gas and holding it at like 1500-2k. |
Nope, can't keep it running. No matter what.
When I am putting the new grommets in, I will check the pins on the plugs. Just waiting on Mazdatrix. |
any idea on your fuel pressure?
pull the fd pump and check to see if the filter sock is clogged, had that problem happen to me on my fd the other day lol, i doubt its the problem but it's worth a shot. kevin. |
Yeah I thought of that so I pulled it out the other day. Still good as new!!
I was hoping it was that easy. I hate having to pull the injectors, my garage already stanks like gas! |
tell me about it, i have to clean out the FD's tank soon.
i figured ill run through one more tank and see if it cleans up, if not, droip the tank we go. kevin. |
*UPDATE*
Well today I put took it apart again. -new vacuum lines-every one -new vacuum caps-every damn one -new injector grommets -NEW injectors Still does the same friggin thing. Nothings changed. Checked the AFM for connections and free movement of the cone. Its fine (no multimeter check, yet) Checked the injector plugs for pin issues. Nothing all good. I even put the stock BOV on incase the Apexi one was leaking. No change. No check engine light. No start. I'm getting pissed. |
Put the old injectors back in. Runs like new.
Dammit. |
LMFAO!
kevin. |
Well it wasn't that easy.
Put the old injectors in, started spraying like a sprinkler system!!!!! Took it all apart AGAIN, the upper o-rings on the old injectors (secondaries) tore (both on them). Put the o-rings from the new injectors on the old injectors, no leaks. Runs like new. The new injectors were doomed from the start. They had the wrong pintle caps on them (well 3 of them did). So I am going to order some new ones from Mazdatrix and put them in, but most likely sell them. I am gathering parts for a complete air/fuel overhaul. Won't need 'em anymore. But yeah kevin, it was pretty funny at the time, and sad. |

Im sure at the back oif your head you` were saying "man i should try putting the old ones back in" but figured "hell theyre new it cant be the problem" ive done that too many times to remember lol kevin. |
