today, after a 30 minute drive accross town, my car started smoking just down the street from my dads house. I pulled in front of his place real quick, popped the hood and preto FIRE. we but it out, but looks like all the wiring around the FI is toast, probably a few hoses and belts too.

It is a 86 NA any idea what it will cost to replace the wiring harness up there?

Sounds like ur pulsation dapner is leaking, I just found the same problem with min, but no fire. There is a trick you can do with a banjo bolt where it kinds bypasses it, im sure there is a writeup on how to do it somewhere.

the trick with the banjo bolt is to remove the pd from the rail and replace it with banjo bolt instead of another new pd. Your going to need a new harness, vaccum lines, and some other things probably. Depending if you finda good used harness or not will depend your price id say 125-500 maybe more for a new one?

Dont do the bypass trick, Ive herd you need an aftermarket FPR because the fuel rail needs a PD. So just get a used one off someone that isnt leaking, or you could pay the $140 for a new one.

these cars are noted fr the PD going bad the best bet you have for realibility and mainly safty is to remove the stock one and put in a aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. You can use good ole E-Bay for the requlator and a coule an fitting with some steel braid and it should not set you back more than $300 which may be expensive but way better than a engine fire. It happens more on turbo cars than Na but still sux whan it does happen.
