aight i went to start fix my rx today, it has been sitting for about 4 months broken because i am a broke *** person. so i fix it throw a new battery in it and try to start it. it takes forever and then it finally starts but it blows enough white smoke to make it look like im doing a massive burnout. but it dies so i keep trying to start it this goes on for about 5 minutes.. and then all of a sudden i see puffs of greyish smoke coming from under the hood from what i can pickup my starter wire caught on fire... ive owned this car for 3ish years and never had a problem with the wiring its always had problems starting though.... anyone have any helpful advice?

you overheated the starter wire due to the excessive cranking time to get it started probably..... The insulation may have melted off and the wire may have grounded to something now...

replace the wire, and then check for shorts with a multimeter. IF you find no shorts , try to start it again... be prepared to switch the car off and remove the battery cable quickly if it shorts again.

has happened to me before in my camaro, same exact thing, the wire melted and ground to the metal under it, it was a son of a bitch to detatch the battery, had front mount rather than top, so it was screwed on, and im freaking trying to stop it from becoming an electrical fire, and my friends were ****** sittin there watching me while smoking a cigarette
