I think 14.4v is normal for a 12v system undergoing charge.

I don't understand quite so much why putting the FD alternator in an FC is such a big deal. I mean I would do it...but I would do it just due to the fact that FD's are gods and it would be a nice mod......so does anyone wanna explain...is it just more voltage or just to do it?

ok take me for instance. i haver a 10" bazooka tube with a small amp running it, a head unit, and an e-fan.

my current FC alternator can barely support those simple little things, god forbid i put the heat, windshield wipers and headlights on.

the fd alt meanwhile puts out like i think 120-130amps which would handle all of that relatively easily. I think the FC alt is rated at 70-80amps or something.

if you have a pure track car where the only thing you got the alternator for is to recharge the battery and run the electronics, no head unit, sub, headlights etc, then the stocker is fnie.

for you dorks about asking about the belts being inside-out (upside down ). the writing goes on the outside part

if teknics was just joking trying to get a rise of the kid with the new alt. it's all good. but if in all seriousness thought that of the belts and has plans for ASE it is no wonder why so many dumbasses are "mechanics".

bottom line: if the damn thing isn't slipping it is ok
well lets see, yuou say writing goes on outside right?

it seems that of the 8 ASE Master Techs i asked at my school, none of them agreed with you. they all said that my belts were on properly (aka cogs facing outward) and said it all depends on the belt, there isn't a standard. Hell the cogged part of my belt doesnt even fit into the grooves on the pulley, the part that has text written on it on the other hand is contoured to fit the groove.

you must be the reason everyone thinks they know more then mechanics, then they blow their **** up and haul it to our shops.

You had to ask 8 "master" mechanics if your belt was on right???

How many "master" mechanics does it take to put on an alt belt these days anyway???

you sure you have the right belts on your car teknics?

being a ASE certified or whatever you should know belts come in

different widths as well as lengths, maybe you dont have the right

widths on your car?

you would think the master mechanics would have questioned why

they arent in the grooves of the pulleys?

and I dont see the big deal about the FD alternators either, why pay for

a used alternator, then have to make it fit, when you can take your FC

alternator to a local rebuilder and have them upgrade it for you. Hell, they will even give you a warranty with it.

it cost me $90 for a rebuild and upgrade and the alternator makes 100+ amps. Its a year old and 40,000 miles later and still fine

As per the belt arguement, shut the **** up all of you. Its a V-belt and only fits in the pulley one ****** way.
