The thing is.... taking any or all cats out of your car is illegal, and they won't do it period. That is why I asked is there any simplier way to go to a exhaust/performance shop to get it done.
*shrugs* good idea.
I didn't think that was possible. But what do I know anyway? I think this was said before. Was it here or someone else? Anyway, someone suggested to take all the cats out of the car, go to the shop and ask to weild a straight pipe together - would that work? Felix - A straight pipe isn't all that much money... neither is the presilencer or header. The silencer I'm talking about goes in the muffler, not the one near the cat (or where the cat is/would be...), sorry for confusion. |
Take a gasket with you so they can make a flange for the pipe. If you don't they will **** you up and just weld the **** to the manifold.
|
True that, I don't plan on having them **** it up. I just hope someone can do it for me , besides Jim. Don't want him to have to go through the trouble, anyway.
|
There is nothing special about the flange on the exaust, its a universal thing. Mazda didnt come out with thier own design. The gasket is even the same as any other car out there.
|
If you say so.

My friend has an apexi setup and likes it alot. I think they make some good exhaust and so does racing beat
|
Well, I thought of this....
Someone mentioned before, the Bonez race pipe. Even though it's for "off road use-only" who's gonna know? Anyway.. what do you think? http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/2catalog.cgi?cat=4?=2 part: EX810625 Bönez 2.5" Race Pipe with Presilencer (86-88 5-speed only) $160 |
Christi, why don' you just get one of my cat test pipes?
|
I want to get rid of my cats, that's why at first.. I said about a straight pipe....

Others including myself have offered help as well so dont feel like we are making fun, or rather that I am making fun. Maybe I should just steer clear of replying to you if you think I am getting on your case deal? A guru I am farrrrrr from a guru, never claimed to be one, but I can tell you the noise of that engine with no cats wears on your nerves after a while! Although I never heard one with no cats and stock mufflers. :bigthumg: |
I guess so. A really bad day.. I'm actually snapping at everyone, I've noticed... sorry. Bonzai offered his product back when this post started, for $30 its a GREAT deal, have a shop make you a pipe for the first 2 converters, leaving the main on there they shouldnt mind, then use his pipe. Well.. I understand that... but I don't think the exshaust shop will EVEN make a pipe, period. That's what they said anyway...... So.. if an exhaust shop can make me a pipe (1st 2 convertors are the precats correct?) ... then when/if I get his, I put his pipe where the main cat is? Ugh. I thought this would be easy, why am I confused? Others including myself have offered help as well so dont feel like we are making fun, or rather that I am making fun. I don't think the nosie will be bothersome. Before I even got my car, well, I take that back. Before I had a license, I've always wanted to be a "ricegirl" you should say. I hung around them all the time, and thought their cars were cool, esp. the fart pipe noise. But anyway, it won't bother me, I like it... and no.... there will be no stock mufflers on, if I go through with this. |
Update:
I might have found someone to beable to make me a straight pipe. I ran into a guy who owns a red 1st gen here in Pcola. He drags his car - everything on/about his car is mostly set up for drag. Ahh.. NICE car, I might add. He said he knows a guy in Pcola that works on rx-7s in his backyard. Said they'll make me a straight pipe for "race purposes" only and adding the mufflers (i'm gonna do two instead of once, since one on an FC imo looks gay) the total will be *about* $200. Maybe less. Word. Now.. I just gotta find the freakin' card the guy gave me :( |

you said you need money / job, why don't you go fill out an application at the local muffler/brake shop. Not only will you make some cash being the shop slave, you'll aslo get access to a MIG welder, oxy-ascetaline torch (if it's a decent shop), pipe bender, lathe, pipes, compressed air, and lifts. Then you could just do the exhaust yourself.
|
Because I already asked that. You've gotta go to school of some sort in order to work at a exhaust/muffler shop. You've got to have some kinda mech. degree of some sort, or I would have done that already.
|
Baldy - I'll do that.
|
Bullshit, I worked at a muffler shop (CarX) then I worked for v8archie.com, no degree or anything. You especially don't need **** to be the shop slave, cleaning and just doing oil changes, over time you learn enough to do brakes and exhaust etc and accumulate tools from the crack dealer, er I mean the snap-on truck. If you show up on time and can turn a wrench, you can work at a muffler shop. They usually only have like one or two ASE certified mechanics just so they can keep that ASE sign in the door. Those places can't afford to have a handful of qualified professionals on hand every day, doing oil changes and brake pads... those guys go work for dealerships, or start their own shop.
