If you're doing universal mufflers, try to get stainless steel perforated core design, they sound better (deeper) and flow great... also the resonator or presilencer (longer the better for quiet).

is 2 presilencers in a row bad? I mean, they're straight through, so how bad could it be, and it would cut down more on the sound, right? or am I missing something here?

my friend did that with his 20b truck, and it worked. ideally you want one in the middle and one near the end, to break up resonances

you dont mention if your keeping the converters or not

you can buy the y-pipe cheap from RB, then you can get a stainless

high flow muffler.

or Dynomax, Corksport, I heard a full Borla on a stock 1990 with

and the car was QUIET, sounded nice actually.

Cats are gonna go, i have no emissions.

do you think it would be wise to do so with a single exhaust n/a fc? or is it tolerable otherwise? I just don't want to get something welded together, then regret it.

i'm not sure, the 20b is quiet with the stock turbos, so its not a real good test, and the truck has a different use of space underneath

Baldy, if you have a header, I think it would.. or let me explain, if you have NO cats, I think a single presilencer isn't enough depending on the muffler you have and the length of the presilencer. Basically, I had a RB header & presilencer on with the Rotary Performance catback (shitty Dynomax mufflers that have no packing in them), sounded ricey and loud as hell. I then put the Corksport single on (deeper but WAY louder). Keep in mind the CS is stainless perf core straight through similar to Apex N1 but there is just not much packing material there. Now, to make it legal and not stink so bad among other things, I took the presilencer out and put a Catco high flow 2.5" cat in like Rob. It quieted it down a bit, lost some of the ricey metallic noise, and gained a bit of low end back which is good. It still has a bit of rice fart can sound at WOT but that's from the shitty mufflers in my system. I bet with RB muffs or Magnaflow perf core universals, it would sound perfect for me.

So, if you want it close to stock quiet custom system, I'd go with one high flow main cat, then a presilencer/resonator, then muffler.. all straight through perf core 2.5". Everyone's opinion of whats too loud and what sounds good is different.
