I need a new exhaust, stock just isnt cutting it. Racing beat while the nicest is just way too damn expensive. So its up between a custom exhaust with quiet mufflers or possibly the borla system because its fairly cheap. How do the borlas sound? How loud are they? Also would a custom system be good enough? Would hi flow quiet universal mufflers be fine?

we seem to have had good luck with just getting the rb dp and presilencer and having the rest made with your choice of fart can. it ends up costing like 500ish for the whole thing, and the presilsencer keeps it quiet
|
I don't know who, but someone was telling me a "resonator" might be good before the muffler. What is that? I mean, I have the RB header/presilencer, and I'm going to do single exhaust with a high flow muffler, and I don't want it to be *too* loud.

resonator = center muffler= presilencer
|
corksport is a cheap alternative
|
If you're doing universal mufflers, try to get stainless steel perforated core design, they sound better (deeper) and flow great... also the resonator or presilencer (longer the better for quiet).

racing beat down pipe, 3" piping to a 3" exhaust. or the racing beat full exhaust.

you dont mention if your keeping the converters or not
you can buy the y-pipe cheap from RB, then you can get a stainless high flow muffler. or Dynomax, Corksport, I heard a full Borla on a stock 1990 with and the car was QUIET, sounded nice actually. |
i finally got my corksport system on a couple days ago. i got some type of header. Almost like that ssautochrome one. Anyway i have that header, magnaflow cat,and CS catback. Sounds awsome!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif I was afraid of it being a ricey metallic sound. But its not ricey at all. Its not a high pitch loud. Its more of a muffled loud. A nice low baritone growl. However i think im gonna need to use the presilencer. No biggy. Perfect fit. Overall , its a nice system. Wish i could get a clip of it but its in my mechanics garage. Maybe later https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif

is 2 presilencers in a row bad? I mean, they're straight through, so how bad could it be, and it would cut down more on the sound, right? or am I missing something here?

my friend did that with his 20b truck, and it worked. ideally you want one in the middle and one near the end, to break up resonances

do you think it would be wise to do so with a single exhaust n/a fc? or is it tolerable otherwise? I just don't want to get something welded together, then regret it.

So, if you want it close to stock quiet custom system, I'd go with one high flow main cat, then a presilencer/resonator, then muffler.. all straight through perf core 2.5". Everyone's opinion of whats too loud and what sounds good is different. |
