hello everyone. about 1.5 years now my engine blew up (seals rotted i guess) anyway after trying to get the money to fix it up and also put in a lot of little project mods in it im looking for engine options. orrigionally i was planning on simply rebuilding it and doing a port job on it but then i thought isnt a renesance engine (rx8) still a 13b size motor, just improved on? if so would it even be possiable, more like realitivly easy (with out lots of cash mods) to put one of them in my 88 na. id love to go from 115hp to a 250hp motor if its a beter version of the 13b. i dont doubt id have to make a few parts to make it fit or bolt up to some things in anyones honest opinion that has some engine swapping knowledge and xp is this something i could do?

I think the engine mounts are different and you would need some way to control the motor.

You will need the engine, wiring loom(s) and either the stock ecu, or a standalone ecu, to start with. You are probably better off just building up the engine you have, the hp output in the renesis rotary isn't all it's made out to be.

You can build your own motor using the renesis rotors(higher compression) but your still going to need standalone ecu.

Building with renesis rotor isn't highly recommended. Not many tuners, if any, have had luck. Racing beat got lower numbers on the dyno with renesis rotors.

but if your not plannign on a lot of upgrades or anything, i dont see how it'd be a bad thing. It makes more than a turbo II stock vs stock, without a turbocharger, and its newer and can get decent fuel economy (driven carefully). I was considering one (vs a TII swap, vs streetport) if/when my NA goes

have you been paying attention to the rx8 reviews?

they're making like 170hp at the wheels or some crazy low **** like that. Hell mazda officially dropped them to 238hp, and most people say thats still well overrated.

theres a few reasons the rx8 motors dont make much sense

1. cost: renny motors are about 2500rebuilt, the intakes are another $4000!

2. it doesnt bolt in, you need to make mounts

3. the stock ecu is networked into the car, so you either need all that crap from the car (climate controls, guage cluster etc etc) or a standalone ecu

it would be sweet to see the swap done, and in ca it makes a lot of sense cause its smog legal, and bp power

a few ppl in Australia have done it havent seen them but....I THINK you need to change front cover and yeah ecu etc etc
