I'll admit upfront that I've never swapped a rotary into another car, although I have dropped a V-8 into a rotary.
That swap is pretty well documented though, so most of the hard work had been pioneered by others but even so it took a lot of headscratching to finally make everything function.
Just getting the (rotary) motor to run shouldn't be terribly difficult, the hard part comes when you try to make the swap appear seamless...stuff like getting the stock gauges and idiot lights to work can be finicky.
From the eighties on, the electrical systems in cars became increasingly intertwined, intersecting at all sorts of unexpected points (seat belt and clutch interlocks, for instance)and life became much more difficult as a result.
So, the short answer to your question is that there's no way of knowing till you try.
