I'd say it would be possible as you mentioned wiring is going to be the biggest PITA. Getting the engine and tranny in would probably be the easy part.

if you where to use the stock rx8 intake manifold and throtle body you will also need the gas pedal from the rx8 also. along with other sensors and stuff from the abs and dsc systems or the throtle will be limited to 15 percent.

there really isnt that big of a problem with the 13bMSP 6 port motor. the issues where mostly with the 13b MSP 4 port 4 speed auto trans motors. i really only changed out 3 6 port motors since 2004 but about 50 4 port motors. and for the most part the 6 port motors i replaced where straight up the owners neglecting there cars.

that sounds far fetched to me. i have rebuilt a few 6 speed gear boxes due to abnormal noise and grinding. i figured out how the ware happend and how the gears ended up being mushroomed over in the engagment areas after driving with the owners of the cars. most of the ware and damaged was caused by the way they where driving the cars. one guy even made it practice to wind out second gear just to speed shift directly to 6th gear always. you keep doing that and something is going to break. specialy on the down shift. anyways for the 10 years that i have been a mazda master tech i have seen a lot wich 75 % of the failures could have been avoided if the vehicals had been serviced either more regularly or by a more skillfull or educated tech or the owner being a little better at driving .

i did have a fluke 4 port 13b MSP that was a reman motor from mazda **** out coolent from the tention bolt seals 5000 miles after i installed it. and mazda did have some issues in there reman factory at one time wich is why they moved there reman department from jacksonville FL to NC and has a new company remaning the engines.

I would think if you were willing and able to spend the time, money, and hassle to do a renesis swap you might as well go for a 20B. A little more potential
