so I've got myself a 1990 FC GXL (Automatic)...

what I want to do with it is put a 13BT from a S5 TII. I was planning on rebuilding the engine myself slowly over the winter. My question where would I get this engine? and which engine would work the best. I would like to have the car pass safety inspection which in MA is an emissions and sound, I believe.

I was thinking about getting a blown or used engine w/ tranny (+ecu,+wiring harness), and rebuilding it. How hard is it to find these USDM engines here? and how much money do they usually cost. Would it be easier to just buy a motorset from a JDM car?

Any help will be appreicated..

the t2 was kinda rare here, but in japan, they were all turbo. so finding a jdm engine set is way eaiser, they are almost the same too. thats really your best bet, as they usually come complete, stuff like intakes, and fuel rails can be a pain to find...

Call Dave at speedmachine. If he does not have any he might know where to get one.

If I got a JDM engine would I be able to pass the emissions test?

yes. the jdm t2's dont have the aws, which isnt tested/important

the aircontrol valve doesnt have the little solenoids on it, but they dont do anything anyways, and or it can be swapped for the usa air control valve

they also dont have the pre cat, but again the usa cat fits, and it will pass the tailpie test without it

im trying to get enough money to order a rebuilt motor from rotorsportsracing.com. their 13b turbos start at $2299, and go up from there. im getting the stage 3 twin turbo (bridgeported), but its just so damn expensive!
