Lost a seal on the rear rotor of my TII.......at idle. believe it or not. Base haltech map, timing locked, plenty of fuel, 11.1:1 AFR. Guy that built is a fuckbag basically (he built shortblock). When i first fired it up everything was fine, went driving all of a sudden I see no more than 15psi oil pressure at anytime. Pull front cover off and he either A)used wrong front cover oil o-ring or B)didnt even put one there OR C) it slipped upon assembly because he didnt vaseline it down. I put about 13k on it at 10psi +/- 1psi Anway...heres somes pic. I'm getting way to effecient at ripping these motors out.

Here are some pics.

what a wee little compressor blade.

looks pretty nice tho, sure you cant wait for a solidly built motor now

kevin.

j9fd3s 04-20-2007 06:13 PM

yeah if it died @ idle, from new, it didnt go together right

RotaryRocket219 04-20-2007 06:22 PM

hahhaa. its a gt32. contrary to popular opinion this will put down 400 all day long at like 20-25ish depending on tune, dave at smp sold it too me and i trust him. Bought alot of parts from those guys (matt and dave) and got lots of great help. its a daily driven car soo. it spools quick. hahha.

And Dave is right on the money, no need for a compressor the size of the engine https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

do you think i could put down high 300rwhp like 380 on pump gas reliably?

After I fixed the o-ring issue it ran fan for quite awhile...now i have 30-25-95 rear rotor. it was a nice 20B housing too with only like 20k too damnt.

Thats a walk in the park...

I was being serious. Slipped my mind it was a T3 though :(

Still should be a walk in the park...

RotaryRocket219 04-21-2007 07:14 PM

Right on I wasn't sure. T3 frame yes but I guess we'll see I've heard alot of the pro and con arguments and seen good results from both.

I never got it dyno'd with the new turbo but at 10#'s it pulled hard with very non agressive timing and 11.1:1 AFR. Id like to do water injection with the stock TMIC until I get a front mount down the road. Although right now I have the motor to work on so haha.

same turbine as a gt35/40, should make almost the same power

nice thats what I was told as well.

RotaryRocket219 04-22-2007 03:15 PM

So All 6 apex seals are there and move freely. IT must be a side seal or corner seal huh? When I did the compression test i saw like 35-50ish-then a definite 90psi bump. it hard to get it real accurate reading with a reg. old compression tester with valve out.

Front rotor had 95 all around

Also man was I rich because the rotors are pretty carbon covered. Nice horrible but they used to look like this.

Sorry the pics aren't very good it my camera phone went dead so I didn't get the secondaries or inner exhaust ports. I remember him saying he went down alot to help turbo spool on the exhaust ports.

RotaryRocket219 04-22-2007 03:39 PM

oops. doubled em up.

the engine was never easy to start when it was warm. It would always fire right up cold. Warm it would be finicky at times. Probably tuning though?

yeah, that takes a good amount of time to figure out on a standalone

yea i think it needs alot less fuel on hot starts, like it was flooding it. I'm happy that all the apex seals are there. thats probably why my turbine wheel is fine! woot woot. Would you here it miss "chugs" with a side seal or corner seal. I spun it by hand and its not missing chugs it seems. its supposed to be one for every half revolution of flywheel right?

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif im hapepy it should be a cheap project. then i can have money for aquamist...25psi on pump...TIRE SCREAMIN' GOOOOOD

SUM BITCH

just get a nice greddy fmic!

Thanks Vosko. Such comments make all the hard work pay off. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

I think I am just going to get a greddy kit, its no hassle. A vmic would be so nice but its alot to have someone fab that up unless you have "homie hookup". I can weld good (MIG) but have no big welder.

teknics 04-24-2007 05:25 PM

just get an NPR fmic, it's an easy hookup.

npr intercooler and a universal piping kit or something? I just did a quick ebay search, cores are nice and cheap.

jwteknix 04-24-2007 06:41 PM

yeah npr is awsome kevin and i did my ic piping with 3ft 10in of piping and the rest silicone bends its looks awsome and is very effecnt

RotaryRocket219 04-24-2007 07:00 PM

Can you guys post up some pics please?

teknics 04-25-2007 01:47 PM

it'll be hard to guy by our pics, both of us have FD UIM's on our t2 motors...and my turbo is clocked 180deg

but the way the NPR outlets are you basically run the piping to right under the rad and then put a 90deg silicone elbow. the setup with my t78 and everything is only going to use maybe 2 ft of piping...total. with a two 90's and 45 on the turbo side and one 90 and two 45's on the outlet side. it's probably almost as good as a VMIC without all the fabrication headaches.

Thanks Kevin. I like the idea of less piping for sure!!!!! The core looks smaller thus not blocking the radiator and oil cooler as much.

there's three types, small, medium and large. i have a large, james (jwteknix) has a medium.

the large is HUGE, if youre worried about the radiator and stuff id go with a medium, it fits a bit easier too.

if you go with the NPR let me know and I can get you pics of how we at least mounted the I/C, its a little tricky.

also some people say its not a good flowing core..but theres no data to back it up and it deals with boost from a decent size diesel motor so IMHO it should work fine, james has his car running with it and the outlet pipe doesnt even get warm, my car has yet to run but i gotta finsh my FD first, my FC only needs some wiring and ****.

keep in touch if you go the NPR route like I said as the mounting looks more difficult then it is, once you actually get it in there it's like a no brainer, and it fits perfectly.

kevin.
