This an 87 TII engine. Is there anyway to check the commpression on an engine on a hoist? Or checking seals, besides the apex? My intake manifold has one of the coolant passages blocked with steel or somthing, is it good to just block both coolant passages that go up into the lower intake manifold? Right now I have been dumping MMO into the rotors and letting them sit for a day or two, so I wanted to see if I could get the results right now, or checking things with the engine together? And there are two small holes under each exhaust port, What do these do because when I put the MMO into the rotors, it was coming out of the little holes as well as the exhaust port.

depends

u can hook tranny up and check it

or do a poor man and watch for 6 swhoooshes as u rotate by hand with a 19mm on the front bolt or by hand on the flywheel.

for the coolanat u can pressurise your system but is ugly to do and not worth it.

If you engine is out might as well rebuild it especially if you have doubts.

So all I could do is listen for 6 swooshes for commpression, or is there a way you could tell just by spinning the flywheel? It spins like the wheel of furtune when the plugs are out. And when in, it sounds real strong. Also is it strange for the last housing to show rust spots a little bit when washing the engine with degreaser and parts cleaner and water?

i would say you coolant seals are gone or soon to be. i would just rebuild

How do you get that idea?

Well 9/10 of the motors we have taken apart had very badly worn coolant rings (square rings) if the motor is out of the car i assume it has more than 80k on it and if that is so which im not saying it is but if so it would have worn rings and WILL start to break down soon (no more than 50k ) at that point you will have a **** load of smoke and then have to take the motor back out and do a rebuild so why not go ahead and save time and do a rebuild? but he may be lucky

I have over 140k miles on my car, and I have yet to see any evidence of coolant burning. Burning oil, now that's another story...

Could you tell if some of the seals are good just by spinning the flywheel by hand? When I take the plugs out and spin it, it spins very freely, and when the plugs are in, it sounds like real good commpression from the noise. And everything looks good from the exhaust view.

Is there any problems with hosing down the engine with parts cleaner and water? Also can the injectors from an n/a go into a TII?

Seppuku 04-08-2004 08:27 PM

na injectors are smaller than tII they wont work.
