This an 87 TII engine. Is there anyway to check the commpression on an engine on a hoist? Or checking seals, besides the apex? My intake manifold has one of the coolant passages blocked with steel or somthing, is it good to just block both coolant passages that go up into the lower intake manifold? Right now I have been dumping MMO into the rotors and letting them sit for a day or two, so I wanted to see if I could get the results right now, or checking things with the engine together? And there are two small holes under each exhaust port, What do these do because when I put the MMO into the rotors, it was coming out of the little holes as well as the exhaust port.

depends

u can hook tranny up and check it

or do a poor man and watch for 6 swhoooshes as u rotate by hand with a 19mm on the front bolt or by hand on the flywheel.

for the coolanat u can pressurise your system but is ugly to do and not worth it.

If you engine is out might as well rebuild it especially if you have doubts.

Houstonderk 04-05-2004 06:43 PM

So all I could do is listen for 6 swooshes for commpression, or is there a way you could tell just by spinning the flywheel? It spins like the wheel of furtune when the plugs are out. And when in, it sounds real strong. Also is it strange for the last housing to show rust spots a little bit when washing the engine with degreaser and parts cleaner and water?

FrostRacing 04-05-2004 07:24 PM

i would say you coolant seals are gone or soon to be. i would just rebuild

How do you get that idea?

FrostRacing 04-05-2004 08:30 PM

Well 9/10 of the motors we have taken apart had very badly worn coolant rings (square rings) if the motor is out of the car i assume it has more than 80k on it and if that is so which im not saying it is but if so it would have worn rings and WILL start to break down soon (no more than 50k ) at that point you will have a **** load of smoke and then have to take the motor back out and do a rebuild so why not go ahead and save time and do a rebuild? but he may be lucky

I have over 140k miles on my car, and I have yet to see any evidence of coolant burning. Burning oil, now that's another story...

Houstonderk 04-06-2004 07:40 PM

Could you tell if some of the seals are good just by spinning the flywheel by hand? When I take the plugs out and spin it, it spins very freely, and when the plugs are in, it sounds like real good commpression from the noise. And everything looks good from the exhaust view.

Is there any problems with hosing down the engine with parts cleaner and water? Also can the injectors from an n/a go into a TII?

Seppuku 04-08-2004 08:27 PM

na injectors are smaller than tII they wont work.

Houstonderk 04-09-2004 07:58 PM

Are the injectors in an eclipse the same? I am trying to find out how to tell injectors apart, and about the cc's.

FCmaniac 04-09-2004 09:19 PM

here man, just read this link:

injector guide

The 87 T2 takes low impedance ND 550's. I've heard the DSM's will take T2 injectors so that may work.

Alright, has anybody ever had a hard time putting the driver side engine mount in? It has this circle piece that you have to keep in while you get the bolt in the hole. Mine has to be pushed back like 2 inches, but the tranny is already attached and everything. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

It can be a pita. You need one person under the car and one up top both moving it around till it lines up.

Houstonderk 04-11-2004 04:47 PM

Alright I did the rats removal and rerouted the fuel and vacuum hoses. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif All the intake hoses from the air flow meter to the intercooler are gone from the wire. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif So I am trying to find a good deal on a front mount and maybe I will have to buy a new turbo, so I will probably get the biggest one that has a direct bolt pattern still. DOes anyone know if they come with all the pipes? the oil inlet and outlet, water inlet and outlet? My oil inlet pipe had to be welded together but didn't last a day. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Houstonderk 04-13-2004 06:20 PM

Alright, what the ...., I put some of this teflon glue stuff on that screw in the pulsation damper, and it still leaks. DO have to use "only" Teflon Tape, or what?

Sesshoumaru 04-14-2004 12:12 PM

banjo bolt

Houstonderk 04-14-2004 08:44 PM

What is a bonjo bolt?

Sesshoumaru 04-14-2004 10:46 PM

it's what will replace the pulsation dampaner when you take it out.

You have banjo bolts on your car. Like the oil metering lines, oil cooler, connection between fuel rails........etc

you can do a search to find out how to replace it.

Terrh 04-14-2004 10:58 PM

the engine is out, so the coolant seals are bad? WTF kind of logic is that?

my engine has been out 3 times, my coolant seals are still ok....

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

FrostRacing 04-15-2004 07:53 PM

haha well it seems he took his motor out and is worried about compression so the motor must have some miles on it. all im saying is its a very good chance that they are almost gone and would be better to replace them now than take it out again to replace them if. If the motor has low miles on it dont worry about them. I never said if the engine is out the coolant seal are bad please read before you https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Houstonderk 04-16-2004 08:14 PM

Is that the only way to fix that little leak? And also, I took the engine out so it could be easier to rewire everything since it caught a little fire by the oxygen sensor. I have put MMO in it, and right now it seems to sound stronger. Anyways, has anybody ever cracked upper right side of the lower intake manifold? I put two bolts in, tighten just a little bit, and all I hear is crack! I take it off and about an 1 inch around the bolt hole falls off. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif By the way, is there a way to get just the oil inlet pipe on the turbo without buying a new turbo?

Houstonderk 04-18-2004 01:03 PM

has anyone ever had to replace the vacuum hoses on the oil nozzles, and if so, where do they sell that little plastic piece at? Or is there a way you could make it? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/violin.gif Also, what causes it to make a thump noise when you try to crank the engine over? Is it the starter being loose or what, because mine is not loose.

Houstonderk 04-19-2004 06:55 PM

Hey, does anyone know how long the stock turbo should last under mild use, with 137,000 miles? Someone told me it last pretty long since it's water and oil cooled. And I am trying to figure out about turbo's. What do the letters on the intake wheel mean?
