I want a camera mount for my car, and I don't want to have to install a cage to do it (or pay $75 to get a suction cup one). A buddy of mine has one in his miata, it stretches between the rear strut towers, but I know that wouldn't work in an FC. Could a bar stretch between the upper seat belt bolts, with a mount on that? Or are there other points that would work well?

Anything you could built or buy is going to cost more than the $75 suction cup one, if it works anyway.



The most cost effective method, take a friend who can hold the camera. Other than that you're looking at lots of work without a roll bar or harness bar.

cams are usually a pretty penny.. so to shortcut the mount might not end up bein cost effective..

I don't really know...if it were me I'd start with a tripod mount that fits my camera (minus legs of course) and see what I could put together from there.

Here's where I'm starting. I'm going to try to use the garment hook mounting points. I got 8' length of U-channel (has corners, shaped like l_l). I'm going to cut it to length, then snip the sides of the "U" at the ends so it can bent to the angle of the mounting point. I'm going to try to use a bunch of copper tubing and assorted 90* and T fittings to sort of hang (bolted to) the U-channel thing. Wing nut bolt to hold the camera in, for easy removal. I'll see how it turns out. The only downside I can see right now is the strength of the U-channel piece, it might wobble up and down during use. I could get something stronger, but I'm just trying to see if this all fits together first.

get a rear strut bar or make your own then make a custom tripod to hold the camera up. My rear bar only cost around $35 to make.

make a rear strut bar, then order an I/O Port brand mount. OR do a search for something called a "super-clamp" and a multi-axis camera head.



If you half-*** it and you get into an accident... you're gonna have a 1/2 Lb missle hitting you in the back of the head. Not a good idea.

Is there a way to make a rear strut bar that doesn't involve welding? Also, how much clearance is there between the rear strut bar and the hatch glass?
