I had that diff knock problem. the one usually caused when that diff mount goes bye bye. well, i dropped the rear and this is what i found!
https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...iff_mount1.jpg https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...subframe_1.jpg if you didn't see it the first time, here's another angle https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...iff_mount2.jpg https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...subframe_2.jpg it seemed as though it wasn't the mount itself. but where the mount bolted to on the subframe. it simply broke off |
but... that wasn't all
left side https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../lat_link2.jpg right side https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v.../lat_link3.jpg wish i could say it's the camera. but the right side lateral link is bent. |

whats this diff knock?
|
i was referring to that knocking noice back there when that front diff mount goes. yes, i should've worded it better. but i'm beat. too tired...
just wanted to share some of my findings. now i'm off to find another subframe? er what can i say. i've only had this car if 6 months. |
that is not uncommon, my friend's 88 TII had the same thing happen. Just weld on a new bracket and make it beefier
|
Keep in mind, it's actually easier to drop the whole rear subframe assembly as one entire unit. Just unblot shocks, calipers, driveshaft, link, stabilizer bar, frame mount bolts and drop the whole unit. Easier to install also, although a little bulky.

While you are at it reinforce where the camber link mounts to the subframe.
|
cheers: any tips on making that bracket beefier?
revvin: how do you propose i do that? sorry for the nOob-ishness. but this is the first big thing i'm embarking on with this car. and with the findings, it went from a weekend project to the rest of winter project. |
just reinforce it a bit. try to add more metal around the area that you are welding to. Then clean off all the rust and paint it. Rust makes things weak, they are stress risers
