After removing the 4 nuts/bolts, what else is holding the driveshaft on? I seems to be stuck to the diff, and I can't remember what's under it, or whether or not I should hit it with a hammer or something.





Yesterday I accidentally slipped the shifter out of 1st while accelerating. I think I broke some teeth off a gear somewhere in there. There's definitely metal rattling around, and I can't start off in first. I can shift it into first, but once I try to engage the clutch, I get a violent banging sound. Everything else works fine.



Anyways, so I decided to try to swap in my tranny from my parts car. Got stuck on the driveshaft last night. I want to try to finish it tonight.

If it wont come appart after unbolting the flange a couple taps with a hammer should free it. Ususally just pushing up on the shaft into the body pops it free.



Clean the two surfaces well before reassembly.

like he said, brute force is needed. Just don't dent the drive shaft or u joints if you plan on using it again. good luck.

It took a few taps (exhuast was in the way), then a good pry, and it fell off.

I got it all back together. Now it won't go into gear at all. With the car off I can shift into all gears fine. The clutch pedal has pressure, like it did before. But with the engine running, and clutch pedal pressed, it acts like I'm not pushing the clutch pedal at all.



I filled the tranny with new fluid. When I had it apart it felt fine when I spun the input shaft and rowed through the gears. Recently, I had replaced the flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, new master and slave cylinder and new ss braided clutch line, throwout bearing, and pilot bearing. It was all functioning great before my transmission broke.



What could be the problem?

Stick your head under the dash, and start adjusting the clutch master rod, can't remember the actual name of it, i think you have to move the nut towards the fire wall, and that should fix it good.

Ok, I'll check that out tonight.



But could that be the issue, if I didn't change the clutch, or any clutch components? Could changing only the tranny cause that to need adjustment?



When the pedal is pushed, I can see the slave cylinder pushing the clutch fork.

The pivot ball for the fork could be broken. How did it look before you put the trans in?

It looked fine, I added some grease to it, clipped the fork in place on the ball, and pushed the top of the fork to move the throwout bearing to make sure it was all in place.



Could the clutch become stuck to the flywheel? Would humidity play a factor, or does that only happen after it sits for a long time?



I haven't start it in gear yet, because was on ramps, and parked in my carport. Maybe today I'll push it out into the driveway and try starting it in gear to see what happens.
