yea basically heres the tip to keeping it alive.

keep your heat in check, your oil in the motor, and gas in the tank.

I would not use an Efan. Most efans draw too much current. The output of the alternator is already kinda stretched. Especially for old ones. You could always buy an expensive efan. I remember Jims5543 buying an efan for 400+ USD. WOWsers!

I would do yearly rad flushes. Test the coolant system. Start replacing anything that is rubber, moves, fluid, or isn't metal.

Change your power steering fluid with Mobil1 ATF. It will do wonders! trust me. I couldn't believe it myself. You change it buy disconnecting the lines and getting a large turkey baster and have it try to catch the oil. Good luck bleeding the system!

I have 150,000 miles on my. Original engine, turbo, tranny, diff, calipers... I race her too in Time Trial racing and autox non stop in teh summer.

i have no ps, it was a ps-less car from the dealer. mine is pretty well maintained.... this is just a general thing hehe i know when taken care of they can last quite some time.

yeah its not like a 1st gen where you lube this, and reset that, and it runs great for 20k miles

CrassFC3S 12-09-2005 11:49 AM

psh first gens are amazing, my buddy found one in a field... talked to the owner and said it had been sitting for years lol we got some gas put it in and started it up.... ran like total ass cause the gas had mixed with the previous horrible gas but whatever that thing freakin started, i wish fc's and fd's had the reliability of a first gen but the majority of that was because theyre n/a. so i picked up a new t2 last night =D

BigTurbo74 12-09-2005 08:20 PM

the only way you will save money on reliability is by doing preventive maintenance. if you are cheap on fluids, hose, or hard parts like t-stats, rad caps, or filters you are basically asking for trouble sooner than later. people don't like to spend big money on non-power adders such as maintenance. i'm guessing that has a large contribution to why CRASSFC3S sees more broke fc's than running ones. my opinion is just to put your car on a schedule and stick with it using factory parts or equivalents. in my experience cheap=ghetto.

- Ditch the precat(s).

- do the oil pellet mod, the one that sits in the front of the e-shaft

- disable the 3k rpms on cold start

add regular maintenance and it'll run for a long time. (158k on original TII currently)

right... cause all 3 fc's ive owned have not broken down... im not making this thread to say heres a cheap cop out way to get around routine maintenance.
