so basically what im getting from this is. my 91 is no GXl. i have a 91 Coupe. and from the brochure...the only way its LSD is if its been swappedin by some previous owner.

one good thing i noticed is, the weight of the 91 coupes are the lowest. even lighter than the previous GTU. thats good....

and i cant be sure what package i have cause its been quite some years since this "coupe" rolled away from the dealship. a lot of changes may have gone through...man this hurts my head

you also have to keep in mind that dealers may have sold cars built in 89 as 90's because of overstock or left-overs, which is where some of the confusion may have come from.

They would have to put new vins on them.

the only way that works is if the car was built late in the year and sold as the next year from the factory before hitting the dealer.

it does make a lot of sence. cause there are many stock LSD 91 coupes out there. i guess this answer will never really be answered. were not the first people to debate this. i guess the reall way of finding out is in the fun....check the tire marks after burning them up!!!

(this is my 100th post!!! just thought i would add that in there)

alot of rx-7 owners think they have a LSD rear end and don't. Most of the guys on ebay trying to sell their rear ends claim that they are lsd and aren't I got screwed on a deal like that. To tell you need the drain cap with the label saying LSD. And to test it take the rear end out and try and turn the drive axels. If you hold one side and try to turn the other it should not turn at all They should both lock up. If the other one turns then you are running and open diff. My car said from mazda that it was LSD but I discovered that it wasn't. So any manuel might be wrong unless you have a turbo or gtus. I hope that helps.

If the sales brochures and the parts manuals indicate there were no 89-91 N/A LSD differentials beyond the GTUs 4.30, where did these mythical S5 N/A 4.10 LSD differntials come from? Did Mazda just manufacture them and install them in some secret plan?

rotaryturtle 09-09-2006 11:55 PM

i know my 91 n/a has 4.10 lsd diff. i took it out and checked. i also asked both the previous owners about it, and nobody ever swapped in a different diff.

sen2two 09-10-2006 12:06 AM

so im not alone here....

there out there. mazda lies.

fc3s4utnv 09-10-2006 12:54 AM

just jack the damn car up, try to turn the axles opposite at the same time, if you can its open, if no its lsd.
