differences in engines

i decided im gonna get a rx7 with a blown engine, then drop a j-spec or rebuilt. i was planning on getting a 89-91 TII as they have more hp than the earlier modles of the 2nd generation. but if im gonna drop another engine into it, are there any complications on dropping a 89-91 TII engine into a 87+, becasue those are so much cheaper and easier to find. does everything match up and what are the differences between the modles?

You'll have to switch the front cover and oil metering pump to the 87-88 style because on 89-91 cars the pump is computer controlled. On 87's it's mechanically controlled. You'll also need to use the 87-88 sensors.

You can buy engines that are already ported and modded from Mazdatrix.com. Or used jspec engines from Corksport.com, or FC3S.org.

what's better about a jspec engine? i mean, if my engine went out, couldn't i just rebuild it my self, port it using a kit and save some money?

Jspecs save you time and sometimes money, not in my case though
Also, according to Mazda, the Japanese Rx7s had 207HP in 1991...but I believe it had to do w/ emissions or something....
