so, I paid $1,700 for my base, and added gxl seats, hubs, breaks, and now I have bad bearings

then my boss decides to be a prick, and shows me an add for a gxl for $1,500, and says, "hey, it's already got the bigger rims and stuff, and I bet the bearings are good, too!"

now I fell like a dumbass, yay! So, did I get ripped off?

UniqueTII 06-24-2003 03:43 PM

Yeah...I paid too much for my car too.

Baldy 06-24-2003 03:45 PM

oh well, like my wife's grandfather (or someone else?) always said: "Something is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay for it." Or something like that.

UniqueTII 06-24-2003 03:46 PM

Yeah, that's the whole idea behind collectibles and stuff like that.

gazellis 06-24-2003 04:04 PM

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Look up and down this forum, and others, e-bay and such. People are paying too much for stuff all the time. Apparently on another topic I did for my Catback. So what. It is what value you place on what you have purchased.

If you love the car and put your heart and soul into it and make it what you want it to be, so be it.

Good luck with your project and send some pics. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif

That is the subjective value theory from economic principles.

j9fd3s 06-24-2003 04:34 PM

i bought mine for $200, and it needed another 1500 to make it even drive...

mike

75 Repu 06-24-2003 04:35 PM

I paid $2700 for my Vert.. Some said thats too much.. Others said no.. I thought it was reasonable plus I needed a car.. So far soo good.. I'm happy..

LannyRX7 06-24-2003 07:38 PM

I paid 500 bucks for my '86 sport...already put another 200 in it and right now it's in a shop trying to become a normal car again.

Plus that other one in the classifieds was prolly not in that great of condition. Prolly Fizznucked. (.02)

1700 is not a bad price for a good car that runs and doesn't give you problems.

Corprin 06-24-2003 09:54 PM

I paid $500 for my T2 almost a year ago, and now I am still waiting to get the bastard running.

all is said, I am sure I would have put up with bad bearings, bad seats, and bad what ever for a car that just ran like it should. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif

MazdaEnthused 06-25-2003 01:13 AM

LOL i paid 365 for my t2 and put almost a grand into it but i've also got a couple of offers for 2500k for it so... we'll see

Streetrally 06-25-2003 01:39 AM

Depends, if your car was in mint shape and low mileage then no. If it was a total junker and it had to be towed to your house then yes. Look at it this way, that car in the classifieds probably had 200K mi on it, and the tranny was bad, and the coolant seals were dying on the engine, and... uhhhh, someone died in the car. That's why its so cheap https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Jeff20B 06-25-2003 03:07 AM

I paid $500 for my REPU which needed another $1500 just so I could drive it.

I ghot my Repu for free, it was runnin but not with a rotary engine.. since then, I have spent around $1500, and still need another $1000 just to get it runnin..

Like someone else said.. Just cuz it is advertised cheap and looks neat does not mean it runs good..

gazellis 06-25-2003 04:57 PM

I paid close to $20,000 for my 87 GXL.

200 bucks for my vert, and a 15 dollar sensor to make it run

The guy that sold it to me was told the motor was blown

Gen2RXSeven 06-25-2003 07:49 PM

I paid $600 for my GXL 2+2, runs good, but I need to fix all the window and sunroof tracks and maybe motors, need to get speedo fixed, little (ok, alot) bodywork, paintjob and it'll be Great.

My first GXL I had, I bought from a dealership for about $1850 and in the 4 months I've owned it, new clutch, exhaust, an then engine blew and I said to hell with it. couldn't aford new motor.

RX7Aggie 06-26-2003 02:24 AM

1 Attachment(s)
$3000 for my s4 TII, which included 17" rims, s5 tail lights, full exhaust, and removed air pump and ACV....oh yeah, and a blown engine.

then spend $5500 on new engine from my mechanic, and $3000 for suspension, brake, and interior upgrades.

am i wasting money? nope, because my ride is tight and "the ladies love my ride cuz they can see they reflection".

rx7machine 06-26-2003 02:32 AM

RX-7Aggie- nice TII man. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

My FC was free and has like 75K on it now..

BigTurbo74 06-26-2003 04:42 AM

Travisty 06-26-2003 12:21 PM

$2300 for my S5 T2 with the mods listed in my sig.

blown motor and needs some body work.

j9fd3s 06-26-2003 01:03 PM

the fc's will never be cheaper, unless the world runs out of gas or something

mike

UniqueTII 06-26-2003 01:16 PM

I paid $5700 for my TII with the paint, wheels, exhaust, intake, etc... If I had it all to do over again, I would have bought a rust-free stock car, but oh well. Live and learn.

mojo1257 06-27-2003 02:08 AM

I paid 6k for my '89 TII whith 101k miles, full exhaust, full suspension, racing seats, glossy original paint, sound system. IMHO I got a really good deal because it was exactly what I was looking for. I think that is the most important thing......not paying more than you think the car is worth. screw what the blue book says. what is it worth to you?

Blink 06-27-2003 03:22 AM

I paid 5k for my TII.. and it had racing beat exhaust, bridgeported motor that was newly rebuilt, and a bunch of other stuff

it really had.. a stock motor with 125k miles on it, two tsudo cans to 1" galvanized steel crush bent exhaust piping.. and some dents.

Lesson #1 when flying distances for a car.. bring 3 cashiers check, 1 for 3500, 1 for 1000 and 1 for 500 deduct as needed.
