okay, today is has been a good day, knock on wood. i put in my new wires and plugs and, since my car actually started, i decided to go with the momentum and finish my CAI project.
after cutting a 3" jagged hole next to my radiator, and moving the coolant reservior and removing the little electric fan (hope i dont need it), i wrapped my TID in Al insulation and did the same with the intake duct. we'll see how well it works tonight after work when it's cool... here's my previous engine bay setup: |

and a closer shot...man that aluminum is bright
BLING-BLING https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
what did you use for piping?
|
good job bro! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

MAN! I almost forgot what an engine bay with every thing in it looked like, Start riping things out of there and throwing them away! lol free up some room, who needs a charchol canister any ways https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

as for materials, autozone sells 3" aluminum intake pipes for honda civics, like $40 (pricey, but i couldn't find any PVC parts that would work), and i wrapped them all in aluminum insuative tape then again in aluminum foil tape. i did the same with the stock TID. |
well done
|
|
yeah, well the engine was replaced last summer, and in the process my mechanic replaced the former customer's TID mod with the stock TID, and that cost $200, so i didn't really feel like just pulling it off and throwing it away.
that and it will take some more problem solving to find good parts to make a shorter zig-zag to my MAF, going to my CAI. and then i will have to connect an inlet for the DV. so much work, not worth it right now. |
I like that!
|
Great idea!
While you're under the hood, why don't you use a damp rag and get some of that damn dust out of there? Your engine compartment is filthy! |
turn your afm so the flapper is not hanging i've heard that if the door is not flapping sideways it can cause hesitations to bad idles. i've use to have mine like that and after a while ihad probs....
|
interesting point reguarding the flapping and what not. i guess i could do a FBD and write the EOM's for horizontal vs. vertical setup, put my $40,000 A&M engineering education to the test...
or i could just ask you at what point it made your car hesitate. my car idle's fine, but when the throttle's barely open (vacuum of ~18 inHg), my car hesitates real bad |
u think that spot will get more air than with a CA box and a headlight scoop?
im debating which to do |
nhmmmm...if i wanna do that ill have to take out my AC ****....i was thinkin of doing it anyways - maybe this will give me incentive to do it --- i did pick up that pipe though
and ur fine taking that fan out - its for when u put on the AC it helps cool |

aggie --- can you get me more pics of the setup ... im sorry but its awesome and its a great idea and im copying it!!
|
i piped mine to go right under my headlight on my s4 (barely fits) and took out my brake ducts, thats where i put my filter right behind the brake duct opening. works pretty good but i have to jack up my car to clean my filter.

If you want to stick with an underhood cold air box, keep the stock intake duct that goes over the fan shroud (if you still have all that) and/or run another pipe from the brake duct opening up through the fenderwell next to the winshield washer reservoir and into your cold air box. Or do a real CAI like mine, Aggie's, Scott 89T2, or Rice Rocket's idea. |
hey! I had a good idea for once! yipee! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683329.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683473.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png You need to remove the RED/ORANGE paint off your manifolds. that looks GHETTO as hell. just leave all the vacumm lines black it would look alto better. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
|
im guessing he took out that shitty air muffler that the acv feeds to....and put the intake in that spot
|
im working on the REAL one now..hehe...ac system is coimng out today
|
sweet.. we should do an FAQ then with all the different types in it

yeah, i took out the AC system, including the compressor, condensor, expansion tank or whatever that was, and the lines. saved 58 lbs, according to someone else...
then i moved my coolant reserior to the other side of the hood latch and made customs aluminum brackets (bought the aluminum strips at lowe's) i also moved the electronic crap over to the left away from the future hole. i then rented a super-duty sawzall from home depot for $15/4 hrs and cut a jagged 3" hole / square next to the radiator, between the upper and lower left side radiator mounts. i bent back / broke off the aluminum edges from the hole. i then wrapped the hole edges in pipe insulation from lowe's ($2 for a 7 ft peice) and put aluminum foil tape over it for durability. i then removed my AFM mounts and reattached it with aluminum strip once the intake pipe was mounted and fit. i wrapped the TID and aluminum integra pipe in insulation tape and foil tape. YOU DONT NEED THE "FRESH AIR HEADLIGHT". this CAI gets plenty of air from the front of the car, in front of the radiator (imagine that!). although i did remove the FTP lenses, which DOES increase the fresh air marginally. you can feel this mod, especially when its cool outside. driving at night this summer feels then same as when i would drive my car immediately after starting it before the CAI and when the engine bay air was cool. there is a HP increase, trust me. i cant wait till late fall when its 50 deg outside...ZOOM WEEEEE ZOOOOM WIRSH |
well im almost there man
i gotta drill the hole.... its funny cause i was working on the CAI concept and taking out the AC this week...then you roll along and do the stuff i cant ******* get the lower bolts off the compressor HOW IN THE **** DID YOU DO IT the fun thing is today the : AC system (but the compressor) came off, and all the airpump, acv, and split air pipe came off https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |

the vaccuum lines are red b/c that is the theme i'm going with, red and white, like the red TII on the white fender. thats why my air filter is red. yes my engine needs cleaning, but it runs and does it in a very fast manner. its strong, and that other engine bay shot is quite old... |

AWESOME, get rid of all those power robbing emminities. as for those lower bolts, i probably spent 30 minutes getting those off, lol
the AC line going to the condesnor was in the way for me, i unscrewed the bolts, but couln't get them out. i also have power steering, and that made matters sooooo much worse. i pulled and tugged, thought i was going to break my power steering pump wires and crap, and finally got that crap off. like those magic rings...there's a way to get them off, you just have to hold your mouth just right. anyway, after getting it out, i realized the AC line going to the interior was blocking the bolts. get that off, and it should be much easier and the fruits of your labor... |
bahhaha my pic will own urs.... dude i cut all the **** i could....all those AC lines i snipped to get out easier no bolts for me
the ******* bolts are impossibblllleeee |
aggie you can also take out the 2nd to the right relay next to the coolant tank
its the ac relay unless ur running somethign off of it say when u get an efan thats what im gonna do....when i press ac button the efan will auto go on |
that's a cool idea, with the AC fan button and all...
