fc3s4utnv 11-30-2006 08:47 PM

phinsup 11-30-2006 08:59 PM

i cant read that link or image or wutever, anyhow as mentioned in the pinned topic, check out this site for cross ref and re-wire info http://www.rx7.org/public/altxref.html

fc3s4utnv 11-30-2006 09:03 PM

That hit the spot thank you

Rob x-7 11-30-2006 09:13 PM

your link-no workie..

phins link- found in the topic that is the sticky https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif

fc3s4utnv 11-30-2006 09:18 PM

Okay I read all that but it really doesnt say what to do. my car is s4 and i am wanting to put an s5 on bc the 70 amps thing really sucks.

phinsup 11-30-2006 09:21 PM

To be honest the conclusion I came to after wavering on this subject is; find an alternator shop to rewire the bitch to 100 or better, there is a guy on ebay that will do it for a reasonable price.

The link mentioned above does show you how to wire the 3-wire s5, s6 alt to constant bat so that it has a voltage input.

fc3s4utnv 11-30-2006 09:25 PM

All I know is after reading everything I can on this stuff I am more confuesed than when I started working on it. Im with you but I drive mine everyday. Plus I was wanting to do the ultra cheapskate thing and just swap them, I got the s5 for freeeeeeee.

CGeek2k 11-30-2006 09:46 PM

I swapped an s4 to an s5 and it was a peice of cake. One wire from the s5 goes straight to the charge post and the other one plugs back into the wire harness. I forget which one goes where and if it wasnt so damn cold, I'd go check now. I'll try to remember to look tomorrow.

fc3s4utnv 11-30-2006 10:10 PM

If you would pls, I know mine s5 alt only has 3 wires on it same as my s5 but damn you read somewhere says this elsewhere says complete opposite

Rob x-7 12-01-2006 05:59 AM

there is more then 1 kind of S5 alternator

CGeek2k 12-01-2006 01:27 PM

Ah, that would explain it. Mine only has 2 wires.

fc3s4utnv 12-01-2006 10:23 PM

Ill take a pic of mine when I get home, it has two small wires and on big charge wire, by god I know where that one goes.

the s5 and s6 alternators are wired the same.

fc3s4utnv 12-02-2006 02:02 PM

That is the same image I had.

fc3s4utnv 12-04-2006 06:39 PM

Well I got it on today and the sucker puts out 15.3 vlt at idle??? and looks like a S6 alt not an S5, but it came off of an S5 car. But it works fine.

ikari89 12-04-2006 07:03 PM

15.3 volts at idle is a bad bad thing. you will toast the alt like that

fc3s4utnv 12-04-2006 08:05 PM

how do you figure you can get them wired to put out 16 + volts

ikari89 12-05-2006 03:56 PM

it has some thing to do with the alternator thinking the battery is completely discharged and it is working as hard as it can to charge it. im not sure what wiring set up causes it but my friend Jrat fried a couple of alts that were outputting 15 ish volts and finally got it right using that picture.

just make sure to follow that picture i posted up and that you have, and it will be perfect.

fc3s4utnv 12-06-2006 01:10 PM

It is wired like the pic. I think it is actually my battery, the old alt drained it pretty bad in a week, if you drive for awhile the volts actuall come down to 14.6.

fc3s4utnv 12-08-2006 12:29 PM

For anyone wanting to know.........

From s4 to 91 na alt is....\

b/w wire trim back tape to harness

w/bl wiresnds to go on the terminal closest to the drivers side.

Run a new 12 ga wire from the other post to the pos terminal on the battery.

I took it down to the local alt shop, they put this gauge on it said is was putting out close to 120 amp at 14.1 volts hooked up like it was.
