What could be the problem when the coolant fan light is lit on my warning light cluster?

I know it comes on when the water temp reaches a certain point and the aux. E-fan comes on, but if it is constantly lit, your thermo fan switch could be bad (small one wire switch on top of the thermostat housing). Also check to see if it has come unplugged. I've run into both probs.

Not all cars have those though, mine doesnt. It has the hole in the water neck but no sensor, wiring, or the fan. Does you car over heat?

All cars with the smallish electric fan should have it.

If you have ABS, you don't have the light in the warning cluster, but it was moved to the instrument gauge cluster itself - I think it's just a round light in the water temp gauge?

All Turbo II's had them, and I think maybe GTU's had them. Like RETed said, if your car has the small OEM E-fan, you should have that sensor.

Yes I do have the little sensor in the filler neck, and yes my car does over heat, what is that a sign of that would be different than eny other sign of over heating?

Maybe the sensor is bad and your fan isn't coming on?
