At a lot of the races I've been too, I've seen many racers put ice ontop of their TB/UIM area between races to try and cool things down, do you think this would actually help? If so, I was thinking of a "cool down" system that uses a small ice/water tank that has a pressurized hose system that runs along the engine bay area w/ misters aimed at key heat areas so you could flip a switch and the system would "mist" the engine bay w/ a cold vapor that in turn would work to drop the temps of the engine bay as well as the air running into the intake...does this sound like a system that might be useful at all? I know that you can spray the ICs w/ water to get a colder IC charge for the incoming air, but wouldn't it work if you could cool down the entire engine bay? I'm at work and bored, so you'll have to bear with the crazy ideas...lol.

The ice on the intake manifold works. Some people use water/air intercoolers with ice water. That keeps the intake charge very cool.

Spraying a cold mist on the stock IC would do wonders, assuming you got some airflow through it.
A friend of mine has a water/air IC on his MR2...I was thinking of trying one in the stock location in a TII, just to be different. |

U'd want to be careful with having too much water running around near you're electrics wouldn't you? i know its only a mist, but it would still drip. FMIC would be ok tho |

Surely, spraying a cold water mist on the stock IC wouldn't be much different from driving at highway speeds during a heavy rain. This sounds like a pretty neat (and easy) way to lower the intake charge temperature. I believe I'll build a prototype and start manufacturing them and sell them all over the world. I'll be rich! RICH! BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Hey, I like that idea! Windshield washer setup gives you a tank, a pump, tubing and spray nozzles! Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! :bigok:

A machinist friend of mine made a air/water IC using 2 heater cores from a pinto (I guess the pinto heater cores are pretty big) to use onn his turbo Saab.

I've already started designing the system...and yes, I'm using windshield cleaner sprayers too...so :P
It was my idea first, I SWEAR... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |

Nah, nothing is that simple w/ me, lol...I want everything to look good and be perfect...
I'm having an aluminum canister made & polished by my buddy that will hold enough water and ice...I have to get some T's and some extra nozzle which I should be able to just locate off a junk car somewhere, lol..I'm gonna mount them in 4 locations. I also need to order extra feet of blue silicon hoses, lol...Also, I'm trying to figure out a way to make the nozzle more of a mist then a spray, ya know? I don't want to spray water onto a hot manifold and crack it or something... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png |

Yea, the IC will be sprayed, but I'm also gonna have a colder mist/spray while sitting in the staging lanes that cools down the manifold/exhaust/turbo area...but like I said..if I spray ice cold water onto a really hot manifold it may cuase damage, lol...a long time ago I jumped a really hot dirtbike into a creek and cracked the block...so I know how hot metal reacts to cold water https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
