I'm purchasing an '89 vert today that needs a top. Where is the best place to purchase a replacement top from?

Shane.Trammell 09-01-2005 02:42 PM

talk to 89rag. he got a cloth one that looks awesome and theyre not that much more than some stock replacements

rowtareh 09-01-2005 02:46 PM

Congrats on the vert, and also that REPU. That thing is yum-yum!

Thanks! The REPU has some rust I'm having to deal with, but is way cool. The vert is going to be a project, it has been picked over a bit.

REPU got the original 12a in it? I love REPU's, but it is hard to find them, rusted or not.

Nope, it has a carb'd 13B in it. It came with all the original manuals and receipts. Should be a fun ride.

introvert 09-01-2005 09:58 PM

If you find out- post it here- I am needing a new (and cloth would rock) top for my s4 'vert.

I think AABestco sells them in sunfast- but they never seem to have them on special, and I am so damn cheap!!!

I could not remember if it was 12a or 13b. Anyhow, I love REPU's, I want one BADLY!!

This is a website for the people that make the tops and do install's

Robbins top

Both the pdf catalog and the dropdown menu's only show recommended hours for an install for the 2nd gen rx-7's, not a website to order from exactly.

My advice is to go through your local upholstery/top shop and have them buy the top through one of Robbins distributors (can't buy through them directly to my knowledge) and have them install the top for you. It makes the job easier because the same tech does the in and out of the top and the warranty will be useable that way. To ballpark a price the factory replacement was about $390 parts only no labor, and the cloth was about $795 top only, no labor.

75 Repu 09-04-2005 11:25 PM

Repus Originaly had a 4 port 13b in em, and the heaviest flywheel of any of the mazda rotaries.

And yeah Robbins top are noice..

a shop near my brothers place will do my top for $500 installed, but thats not for a robbins top.. i bet they would ask a ton more for that..

toplessFC3Sman 09-05-2005 02:11 AM

Yea, i got a robbins top on mine, and its nice, altho installed it ended up running almost $900 installed

Grizzly 09-08-2005 03:04 PM

Has anyone bought a top from this place?

http://aabestco.com/merchant.ihtml?id=564&step=2

I'm intrested as i'm buying one very shortly and as i live in the UK will only deal with them if they have a good Rep.

I take it you would recomend Robbins? Do they fit well? (Good quality?)

89 Rag 09-08-2005 04:42 PM

I would recommend Robbins, the quality is there, but the fit is only as good as the person installing it. I can't say about the vinyl replacement, but the cloth goes back in extra tight, it's really hard to get the top closed when it's brand new. I would leave it closed and put it in the sun for a few days, if possible, to get it stretched out a little.

Grizzly 09-08-2005 04:43 PM

Sun?? Whats a Sun?? LOL I live in the UK we have RAIN https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

I've just been on the Robbins Web site, looks like theres an Outlet here in the UK so Thanks for that saves me alot of agro. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Thanks for complimenting the car too!

Rob x-7 09-11-2005 07:23 PM

if you live where it rains alot then get the vinyl top, get it local, my local guy only charged me like $300-$400 more then what the top would have cost me by itself, its not a easy install either, expect to pay between $850-$1200 depending on where you live and how much they feel like charging you

any shop can get a robbins top- let them make a little on the top so they give you a brake on the install

Grizzly 09-17-2005 11:16 AM

Well i have just been qouted about $990 (£550) thats without fitting it / postage. They would want another $360 (£200) to fit it. So i would end up with a grand total of $1350 fitted. I am Thinking of buying a Hood and getting a Guy i work with to Fit it for me (I work in a Body shop)

Rob x-7 09-17-2005 04:46 PM

last I checked the top itself from robbins was under $600
