the other thread got way to long and i posted a bunch of pictures that were just taking up space. so im starting a new thread because i have a new problem...

ok, so i pressure tested it and everything is good. i resealed, gasketed, and o-ringed everything... so im pretty sure now theres no vacuum leaks. but it is an rx7. leaks sneak up on you...

so, i was just going to drive the car around the block becuase i finally put an exhaust on it. i just wanted to see how it sounded driving at 20-30mph. but, when i put it into 1st gear the idle drops and holds at 1500 i think. maybe it was 2000, cant remember. and it sounds like its running on one rotor. but at idle or when not in gear, it bounces from 1500-2000. and if i turn the idle up to 2500+ it holds it and sounds good. it revs freely and also sounds good.

so now im pretty sure its something electrical. what would cause this? it also did the same thing when i put it into 2nd. didnt try the rest of the gears. and as soon as i take it out of gear. it goes back to bouncing...

so maybe this could be it...

the throttle body is ported and i removed the secondarys also. maybe when i was going this, i hit, moved, adjusted something on it. i know that could cause the idle to surge up and down.

but what isnt making sense to me is that when i put it into ANY gear, the idle holds at 2000 steady but sounds like its on one rotor. while im still holding the clutch pedal down. so theres no load on it....

When you ported the throttle body did you (fairly sure you did) align the butterflies correctly?

Also, is there a dashpot still there and is it in good working order and adjusted correctly?

i noticed pauls FD does this too. it idles where its supposed to, but when you put it in gear it changes. not the clutch switch. i think the FD knows when its in gear or not. not sure about the FC, i think no

Im not really sure either... Im think the nuetral safety switch lets the car know when its in gear, maybe to prepare the ECU for load MAPs? I kinda just made that up, dont know it if actually does that.

Either way, I have a completely stock TB on the way. It has a TPS thats good on it also. I dont think my TPS is "bad". But its on its way out. the ranges could be adjusted good, but not perfect in all settings.

And maybe while i was messing with the TB, i messed something up. I started playing with all the springs and how the butterflys react to try and get everything to react at the same time and react faster. so we'll see when it comes...

ok, so i got the stock TB and a TPS, didnty touch them or mod it at all. Just cleaned it with degreaser and carb cleaner. The car started fine and idled fine around 2000. lowered the idle to 1500 and it stayed there just fine. let the car warm up some and it still was fine. it would usually start bouncing after a minute of high idle. so im pretty sure that problem is fixed. buuuuuttttt..... when i put it in gear (clutch still depressed, the idle drops and still sounds like a lawn mower, and bouces again!

so, i have no idea now what it might be... a sensor on the tranny? wiring?

the FD has a 1st gear switch, so the ecu does know its in gear, although what it does or why i dunno...

OK, so i fixed it kinda...

I had the plug at the clutch pedal unplugged so i can start the car without holding the clutch in.(i work on the car by myself and sometimes have to start it from outside the car). I plugged that back in, and the gear idle problem went away. but for some reason i still dont have to press the clutch in to start it? I adjusted on the TPS and it got better. so after fixing everything...

the damn thing will not idle below 1500, and it started boucing again!!! i dont know what the ******* deal is here???

One thing though. This car is RHD swapped. So i had to wire in the rear US harness to where RHD rear harness plugs into the fuse box. I did not use all the wires. I just simply put all the wires that matched eachother and tested it. All the lights work and everything. so i left all the others alone and taped them up.figuring they were for auto seatbelts, sun roof, ect... could any of these wires going to the rear harness have anything to do with it? i really doubt it...but not sure.

but i can drive it now that it goes into gear. So im just might drop it off at a local rotary shop. Im so dne with this thing...
