Ok, I haven't messed with my intake system in a very long time. After much debate I am ready to do it correctly this time. As you can see in the picture I have the air pump air return hose going into the air filter itself. This is of course warm air which defeats the purpose of a cold air intake system. This was a temporary fix at first that was never fixed. If it isn't connected the engine doesn't run smooth. I am NOT going to take off the air pump, too much work and not enough benefit for the work. I don't want to mess with my headers and the block off plate deal. Where is a good place to have that hose go to or what can I do with it? Can I remove the hose and just adjust the idle or something? I want to hear real world answers and not I just bought a filter off of ebay, done. As you can see the hose is arrowed in red. I have it drilled into the filter head. What have you guys done that works well with keeping the air pump? Thanks.

 

Your understanding of the system is flawed...that's the air pump intake, not a "return" and has nothing to do with the main intake system.

The air pump could care less what temp air it's sucking in as long as it's filtered.

I don't have a specific pic of my airpump- never found it interesting enough to feature- but you can see it and the attached filter in this shot...







I just put a short 90° hose on the airpump and attached the appropriate sized filter.

Probably could have gone smaller on the filter but I had this one laying around so I used it.

 

So your telling me that my setup looks different than yours but is basically the same thing?

should I just keep what I have and just get a new air filter? Is that small filter by your radiator hose connected to the same place that my hose is coming from? If it is so, is that a better setup, and what purpose does the other air filter serve?

 

The small filter by the rad hose is for the airpump and I guess the only way it's "better" than your setup is there's no long hose draped all over the place.

When you say "other air filter" do you mean your big cone filter?

If so, that's the filter for your intake.



My main filter has been relocated in front of the radiator (under the black panel) so it's unaffected by engine bay temps.

the other air filter I was talking about was the one by the radiator hose. So if that is an intake hose then I'm just going to do what you did and put a separate filter on it. I like the placement of your primary filter. thanks for the help.

 

You can always try this for fresh air too, you have to remove the windshield wiper bottle though. You will also have to clean the filter a lot more often...
