On my way back to work from dinner, my clutch pedal stopped returning to its upright position when I'd take my foot off of it. Wedging my boot behind it, I could pull it back up, and it would have pressure the next time I pushed it. While all the way to the floor, I could still change gears, as if I were still using the clutch. No grinding, and when in gear, no slipping or flares, etc. Any thoughts? The only thing I can think of is (if there is one) a spring or whatever it is that returns the clutch pedal to it's fully upright position

 

Likely blew your rubber hose that attaches the slave to the master

There is a spring and locknut assembly for the clutch pedal...hopefully yours didn't break off completely, although, even if it did, it isn't the end of the world. The fact that everything functions normally otherwise leads me to believe you are correct in assuming it is the return spring that is the problem. The spring length should be smaller than 1.5 inches in width with no pressure on the pedal (in the up position).

 

Alright- your thoughts sound a lot more promising (on the wallet, er, sort of I guess). Considering it's to dark out right now, I'll be having some fun getting the car home tonight. Thankfully I have tomorrow off, so I can hopefully figure out what is wrong with it, and fix it

 

I think its the return spring. My dad has a '76 Ford Ranger that he uses as a farm truck. Hes probably put 100k+ miles on it with the clutch pedal like that. Nothing you need to fix if that is indeed the problem.

 

Did you check the clutch fliud level?

 

Fluid level is still good. I was able to drive it home last night, the weirdest thing though. I'd have to push in the clutch to get it in first gear. It would then stay on the floor, yet I was in gear. Then I could just change gears without using the clutch, and it drove fine. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet today, but I don't think it's a problem outside of the pedal

 

Okay- I just went out and checked the car. I had my wife push in the clutch when the car was off. The rod the pushes the fork engages, then slowly looses pressure. After that, the pedal stayes on the floor. If I were to just push in the clutch pedal and let go, it comes back up normally
