Alright, I've been able to smell gasoline for a while whenever i'd shut off my car, but i'm not sure if that's the problem. Anyways, yesterday, it just quit starting. I had it started, moved it back, turned it off, and now it won't run at all. When it starts, it turns over forever, but doesn't start. There's a small clicking noise in it about every 1 and a half turns. Anyways, I thought maybe it wasn't getting any spark, but it's sparking just fine, wires are good, and I put new plugs in it. Same problem. I'm thinking it must be something electrical. Maybe a sensor that isn't allowing any fuel through. I'm not sure. I'm just looking for ideas before I have to take it to the dealership for a diagnostic. Any help will be appreciated.

1- your car is flooded now
2- that smell before might have been your fuel pulsation dampner. Check the dampner then unflood the car and it should be good to go |
Sounds like you might have just flooded it...try pulling the fuse out of the EFI spot under your hood and crank the motor a few times, put the fuse back in, and see if it'll start...

Damnit...wasnt first to respond again, lol...Rob beat me again!

Hmmm, would it still be doing it after a day of trying to start it? I haven't had a chance to check that EFI fuse yet. Parents are sleeping and will end up bitching a whoooole lot if i wake them up with my car.

Whenever these cars dont start up, they flood, unless they are out of fuel or the fuel pump isnt working. |
Alright, that makes sense, and the spark plugs were grimy as **** when i pulled them out. Not sure about gas, but there was a hell of alot of oil on them.

How to deflood:
Pull the fuse, pull the plugs and crank the engine over for about 15 second with the gas pedal to the floor, wait a little bit and crank it over again... Then clean your pugs using a steel wire brush... Never use a brass wire brush as this will leave a coating of brass on the ceramic around the electrode and it can conduct electricity and make the spark occure where it doesn't do ****.. Now crank the engine over one more time with the gas pedal to the floor and put the plugs back in, put the fuse back and start her up... |
Got it running again....flooded as ****. Had to crank that thing for a looong time before it finally came unflooded. Anyways, thanks for all the help!

You may want to put some Marvel Mystery Oil in there, let it sit overnight, start it up again, clean out the carbon and throw a set of fresh plugs in now.

2- that smell before might have been your fuel pulsation dampner. 1: dampner is not a word (nor is dampener), dampen is, and damper is. Rob must be on the pipe again https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png 2: it's fuel pulsation damper 3: read Mazdatrix Pulsation Dampers FAQ It dampens the pulses in the fuel flow generated by the pump and the pressure drops caused by the injectors opening and closing... You would smell fuel if yours was leaking like the mazdatrix site documents... Your car might just be running rich, you might have leaky injectors (if they are still original send them off to be cleaned), and these cars always run rich from the factory. You better check the pulsation damper though, there is a real fire hazard there. |
it is mounted on the fuel rail...look for injectors by your air inlet tube into the throttle body....if that thing smells like gas or is dripping....stop what you are doing and replace it...your car will catch fire if the fuel dampener is broken..no joke

Hmmm... Damn, that blows. Well, there goes my exhaust money again. I'm gonna have to buy it from the dealership probably too, because I have to have my car. Oh well, it's just money. Anyways, would it be something that would be fairly easy to do in my garage with just standard tools, or should I take it in to get it done? Thanks again.
|
it's not difficult to fix, you can buy it from mazdatrix if the dealer price is higher.
|
Well, I guess I'll do that in the morning then. I'll let you all know how it goes.
|
Wow, thats spendy, you could scrap the stock PD and the stock fpr and get an aftermarktet fpr, for about $20 more. That would work wouldn't it? Or you could uprgrade to an s5 rail and you don't have to worry about that.

isn't that fuel damper repair a warranty thing that Mazda is required to repair for the life of the car? or am I thinking the gimped automatic seat belts?
