i dont like cruising in 4th gear. And its a problem i would just like to fix anyhow. Its weird though.. last night it was perfectly fine. then this morning when i left to work, it wouldnt go into gear period, not with the car off, or stopped.

exactly, you figure in breaks, and food time, and sit down and watch tv time, and deal with annoying girl time, etc etc, and its a 10 day job.

could it be a bent shift fork?

unlikely, the forks are cast steel. it could be the following; jammed shift rod (you wouldnt have reverse in this case), synchro broken so badly a peice is jammed in there, failed hub sleeve (again reverse wouldnt work), it could also be the shifter

Benny 01-26-2004 11:54 AM

what about the shifter could it be?

Could be, pull off the interior stuff and have a look.

I had a Toyota that did the same thing once, but 3rd.

Thought it was the tranny, but after a quick inspection of the interior linkage

it was just a little "pin" in the way.
