I would buy my TII and then put the rest of the money into making it better. Hell, I wish I could afford to keep it and do that myself.

I have to wait until the insurance company looks at it to come up with a new price.

so this board is about fifty fifty on the car. well then what would you say is worst condition youd buy a 7 in? Example if the car needs new everything then its gonna costs thousands more were as if the car only need a new engine the body can be saved. Whats the worst condition you would buy??

Has anyone done anything similar to this other than mazdaenthused??

It depends on what you're good at and who you know. If you know a body guy, buy one with a bad body...like mine. If you know an engine guy, get a rust free shell with a blown engine.

If you've got 5k to blow now, and a couple more to help mod, and are new to the scene, I'd recommend buying one that is close to stock with a good body, and maybe a newer motor so you can (hopefully) avoid any major problems until you can get more experience with the car.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help everyone. I am out on the search and will hopefully be posting some pics of a stock 7 in a couple weeks.

here's what i did:

i knew i wanted more power than my crappy 86NA, and i knew i wanted a standard. enter TII. so i wanted a turbo in either black, grey, or white and i wanted to eventually put 17" rims on it, rebuild the engine for reliability, and get some nice S5 rear lights, and find one with a decent interior (no cracks on dash). i looked all summer and found one for $3000 with a blown engine. it even had the rims, exhaust, and S5 lights already put on.

my mechanic rebuild the engine in my S4 na, so i knew he could do a good job. i went to him, and now i have one of the pimpest cars i can think of...all for under $9000

what else could you get for $9000? a kia https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

personally, i'd go with a good looking car that runs bad/not at all. engine work and parts replacement is something you can do yourself and save lots of money on labor. body work isn't.
