Hello everyone. I'm Currently pending a deal on the following car:

1989 Mazda RX-7 TurboII convertable. Its been imported so its RHD.

(I live in alberta Canada)

Specs: "ATK" rebuilt engine from japan. Engine has approx 20,000 kms on it, the body has 118,000 kms on it.

Transmission was origionaly Auto, but has been replaced (since in canada) with a 5speed.

Mods to the engine include a BOV, HKS filter, 3in Downpipe, dual ballet exhaust.

body is in ex shape. only 1 small ding, and 3 spots with scratches. The convert top is brand new. ZERO RUST!

wheels are gay ASA 15 inchers. booo

interior is in good shape. Not pictured is the 5speed conversion. the shifter and steering wheel are from a 10th anniv (not pictured)

-now the bad:

-the car has a horrible idle problem when cold. RPM's bounce up and down

-radio, dome light, boost gauge dont work.

-'door open' indicator is always on

-clock doesnt work

he is asking $11,900 CAD for the car.

I've offerd $10,000 as is, and he may take it.

opinions, comments, things i should be looking out for???? i need as much feedback as possible!

i like it, the problems that it has seem minor. $7877.74 is what you offered in usd, which might seem high, but it is a jspec vert

thankyou for your reply. I checked BlueBook value on this car and it is about $6500cad and I have offerd $10000cad. So I would be paying a little over book value, but also, the car is a Jspec car and KBB only takes into account that it would be a USDM car.

I dont like the Idea of this car being Right Hand drive. I drove it, and i dont really like it. Im going to have to learn to drive stick all over again.

Right now im just waiting on Quotes from some insurance companies to see if this Turbo'd right hand drive car will cost me a shitload more than what im paying now.

BTW: does anyone have any ideas as to what this IDLE problem could be? seems to me like this is the only main problem with the car. And because its got a pretty loud exhaust, when the car is cold idle it sounds really bad.

search through the 2nd gen faqs to try to get it figured out. its most likely a vacuum problem, so check all of the lines.

does the car have a normal vin?

find a vert and get the vin plates from it. then register it as a normal vert, if it ever came down to it you swapped it, know what i mean?

I dont see why I would need to do that though?

I live in alberta canada, and the car is a perfectly legal import (older than 15 years) it allready has a out of province inspection, and its 100% good to go. all i would have to do is register and insure it like normal.

found out today insurance is the same as a LHD vehicle. But insurance is a little more than on my cavalier but thats expected.

I just think its going to be crazy hard to make a left turn in a budy intersection from the right side of the vehicle. thoughts?

If you want a factory Turbo 'Vert, LHD and Canada does not require any retrofitting, perhaps you should consider importing one from Germany. In the US there are companies that specialize in this service. When I checked, cost to the US was $5,000 USD, but most of that was to retrofit the car to US safety code. Attached is a link that will give you an idea as to what the asking prices are for German Turbo 'Verts (hope it works)
