Hi, I am still new to the forum, haven't had the time to get on in awhile. Anyways, I was looking at a 91 rx7 n/a, and when I was test driving it, it stalled when I let off the gas. It was idling low, and the owner said that he had only secondary(trailing?) sparkplugs in it and that it needed some primaries up top. Could this be the source of the problem?

I am not sure why he would have only trailing plugs in, but he said I could put some leading plugs in before I bought it, I just wanted to know beforehand what I could be dealing with. He seemed nice and honest enough, I am just not an expert at all on rotaries, learning as I go, but understand the extra maintenance and stuff

they need to have all 4 spark plugs or it isn't going to run right. personally i'd get 4 new ones for it just to be safe and pray that there's not any damage yet

No. Sounds like BS to me.

I'd get someone knowledgeable about rotaries to look this car over before you buy, unless the price is so cheap that you can put a new engine in it if necessary.

Read up a little so you can understand why Mazda runs a leading and trailing plug. Knowledge is power.

De-Mystifying

Thanks everyone. I did not end up getting that car, but I traded my eclipse for a project 87. It had a bridgeport rebuild 2000 miles ago. It needs a little tlc, especially in the interior, but I am liking it pretty well.
