Get 25# of Dry Ice Pellets. Spread over the tar/sound deadner material. Let sit 30-45 minutes. Remove pellets. Take Deadblow hammer and whack, tar till break up and crumble. AS always:PLEASE EXERCISE THE PROPER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, :GLOVES, COVER ALL EXPOSED SKIN. GOGGLES AND A FACE SHIELD. pROPER VENTILLATION. DO NOT ATTEMPT IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE. YOU CAN/WILL APHOXISIATE YOURSELF!!!

Does that really work?

And, umm, what is Aphoxisate?

pengaru 04-04-2003 04:49 AM

apparently it does work, it makes the tar freeze so it's very brittle and breaks apart from the blows with the hammer / chisel.

I think he meant asphyxiate.

You'll pass out, because dry ice is carbon dioxide, and breathing it is bad, m'kay.

AK I didn't check my dictionary!!! Sorry

The interior tar is actually worth a little over 20 lbs. I weighed all of mine after I chiseled it out.

The weight of the cage is very dependant on the type of tube (dia. and wall thickness), and the design. I've estemated a couple of cages for autocross. One more thorough than the other, but neither of them have a lot of side impact protection that the road race guys have.

One cage has roughly 70' of tubing, the other has about 57'. Tubing weight:

1.34 lbs/ft for 1.5"x.090"

1.769 lbs/ft for 1.5"x.120"

So the min. weight for the small cage would be ~76lbs, and the max weight for the bigger cage would be ~124lbs.

These numbers do not include the weight of the welding add rod, or the mounting plates... but I think my tube length are on the long side, so it may balance out.

I've also thought about making a tubular version of the engine support cross brace. That stamped/welded metal piece that goes between the front suspension. But I don't know what the stock piece weighs yet.

wow, the Tar crap is that heavy huh?

Damn, i once wanted to rip all my carpet out and have the inside chassis repainted. But i didnt do it, cause i didnt know how to get the tar crap out. I think a stripped interior would look realy nice if it was cleaned up a bit.

" Step in to nice shiny red sheet metal for floor boards"

Granted, alot more road noise is going to be transferred thru the chassis. But Fuk it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/ohmy.png
