ok im in the process of of redoing the complete brake system on my 88 se.

i am taking and upgrading all of parts from my 88 tII.

vac booster, calipers, master clyinder and porportioning block. All lines and fittings will be changed to -3 an SS braided hose and fittings. i will also be using B&M launch control. Some prior info from the 88 tII parts car previous owner deleted the ABS and ran all new hardlines from master to porportioning block to calipers.

So the master is rusted and leaking so I decided to purchase a reman unit from mazdatrix for an 88 tII w/ ABS b/c thats how the vehical came stock. I had no reason to beleive the master was changed when the previous owner deleted the ABS.

Now here is the problem I received the reman unit I ordered, and compared it to the old one. The reman unit only has 2 outputs for the lines (front and rear), and the old one has 3 outputs, 2 to the porportioning valve (1 for rear and 1 for the F/R corner of the vehical) and 1 to the F/L corner of the vehical. Now the question is, is the reman unit porportioned internally? if so can i just run one line out to the front and one to the rear and T them my self making equal length lines, or will I have to get different proportioning valve to split it

I already have all the lines, fittings, T's, and launch control

Thanx in advanced for any help.

James

I just finished a brake swap from an 88 GXL no anti lock brakes (Was an option) to an 87 SE. Pretty sure the systems are the same as the turbo, 4 pot front calibers and the rear calibers are wider to fit across the vented rotor. The brake booster is a little larger off the GXL as I am sure the turbo model is, I didn’t swap it as I like a firm brake pedal and the only thing the larger booster will do is provide more assist. (Smaller booster works great) The rod that contacts the master was the same in both and there is adjustment in the rod if needed also. The master was the same on both cars with the exception of the switch on the bottom for the GXL electronic suspension brake signal, as was the proportioning valve. Only reason I mention this it is what you had. I used the GXL master only because I had brakes after the conversion and was using the 87 master until I did some hard brake testing. It blew, started bypassing, soft brake pedal that will pump up. So I used the GXL master which I had replaced once. NICE BRAKES! The proportioning valve sits off to the left of the master and two lines from the master you describe connect to it. Same on both cars. Your line off the bottom front of the master goes to the left front brake directly. The R/F junctions though the proportioning valve as do the rear.

Now you want to add a line lock, the master you have should work. So forget half the crap I just typed but keep in mind the booster

Myself I would get an adjustable proportioning valve. Jeg’s, Summit Racing etc. use the new master cylinder you have tie the front together for the line lock. The lines don’t need to be equal length either, hydraulic pressure should remain the same for whole system. That’s what the proportioning valve will correct.

Use the adjustable proportioning valve for the rear and find a back road and set it up. (Use no copper or compression fittings and double flair) Going fast is fun but just half of it, stopping is more important after!

you have 2 options

1. get the right master

2. put a "Y" fitting on the front output of the master

well kevin told me to just run each of the lines to the porportioning block (front and rear to front right and rear) then to split the front right line after the line lock. spoke w/ a couple of other techs about it and they said the same. so thats what i will be doing, hopefully it wont snow here all weekend and ill get some more workdone and ill try to take some good pix of the job thanx
