When it's cold out and I first start my car the idle bounces from 500 to 1.5k RPM, is this normal? it levels off once it gets warm....the guy who did my clutch said that's not normal, but he's a tool and mine is the first 7 he had ever worked on...any help or info is GOOD!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png (also there is a pretty good sized hole in my first Cat Conv, is that gonna harm the car at all??)

thankx

could be a vacuum leak somewhere...

or maybe the TPS needs some adjustment...its definately NOT supposed to do that, haha

1Revvin7 12-13-2002 12:48 PM

Thats normal its called the AWS(acclerated warmup system) You can remove it if you want, its on you throttle body, its removal is part of the TB(throttleBody) mod, which is in the 2nd Gen FAQ section. If you live in a cold area you might not consider removing it, if you do you have to let it warm up w/o driving.

j9fd3s 12-13-2002 12:52 PM

its kinda normal, it need to have the tps adjusted

lol...so if i bought a brand new 90GXL it should bounce from 500 - 1500 - 500 - 1500 when i start it up? hahaha

thats the funny thing, if you did buy a brand new 90gxl it would either shoot a huge cloud of smoke out, flood and not start, or have a bouncy idle

page 57-58 Fuel and Emmission control on Factory Service Manual. My car did it until i disable the aws system. And yes it does it regardless of the tps. yes a new 2nd gen would do it. And no it will not bouce as you say thats way too much, that is a misadjusted tps.

3rd gen section.

yeah what up bitch

CrashFactory 12-14-2002 01:37 AM

ok, what about the hole in the catalytic converter, i've heard that if there

isn't enough backpressure in the exhaust the motor can burn itself to a crisp

and the hole is pretty good sized....o and most of the exhaust donuts rotted when the exhaust was put back together after the clutch change :P

FCmaniac 12-14-2002 08:27 AM

burn the engine to a crisp?? I don't know about that but it definitely doesn't help.... If you have holes in your cats from rust then chances are they are clogged too, time to replace them. It's a lot cheaper to replace the cats with a pipe and presilencer or high flow main cat than buy OEM replacements plus you'll get more power.

CrashFactory 12-14-2002 02:27 PM

ok kewl, what should i look for, i mean i don't want every cop in caldwell county being able to hear when i am coming from 2 miles away...it's ok to be loud, but i want to be able to hear afterwords...and will that pass inspec here in a year or 2 (**** that I'll worry about that when it comes, forget the inspection thing), i have a catalog that is all 1st-2nd gen Rx-7 parts and it has a dual outlet dual exhaust by Monza that looks pretty nice and is only 273$ is that a good price and decent exhaust? it's cat back tho......

Seppuku 12-14-2002 04:43 PM

monza sucks dont buy it.

FCmaniac 12-14-2002 05:12 PM

Whatever you do, don't buy the ****** Pacesetter/Monza shite... that was my first cat back several years ago. After six months, rust holes were developing around most of the welds not to mention it sounded like ass.

Do you need the entire exhaust now or just the cats? If you can't afford both and your cats are bad, spend the money on the cat replacement pipe and presilencer/main cat assembly. That is probably the most HP per dollar first mod you can do on an NA... check them out at racingbeat.com and rx-7.com

yeah i think i blew a bigger hole in em tonight, i flooded it and i couldn't remember how to do the fuse thing, and i didn't want to come all the way back to the house to find out....put a pretty good sized dent in rear quarter panel, i feel stupid now......it started after a bit and blew white smoke for about 2-3 mins (i assume cuz of all the extra gas) andso i revved it hard when it started and it hasn't sounded the same since..

cool...

well i've owned my 91 n/a for 4 years...it just starts up, revs to 1500...then calms down to 750 once its warm...no bouncing

my T2 does the same. never experienced the bouncing when the TPS is set properly
