I was just wondering what was needed to do to raise the boost past 7psi on my 1987 turbo II. I had herd that once the turbos make more then 7 psi that fuel is cut to the engine. what can i do to stop this

A fuel cut defender will stop it.

You do know that it isnt as simple as just raising boost right? You need to support that boost with fuel.

you need more fuel, the stock ecu and injectors, and fuel pump cant safly run the car at that high of boost or higher,

id sugest to get a rtek 1.7 ecu upgrade with 720 cc secondary injectors and perhaps a walbro fuel pump....

thats good for what ever psi the stock turbo can dish out which is about 14 psi max,( you would want an IC upgrade above 10 psi as well)

Your '87 T2 is 6.5-7psi stock. In order to safely run to 10psi, I would do this:

Free up the intake w/ a k&n filter (cone would be best)

Free up your exhaust with a larger downpipe and free flow cats

Install FCD

These two mods by themself should raise your boost level to around 9psi on a well running S4 Rx7....but not safely.

Install a boost controller either manual or electric. When you start wanting to increase boost pressure on the stock turbo ...the wastegates get annoying, very quickly..especially on the S4 cars. The boost controller will at least give you some control over your wimpy stock WG.

Another good idea would be to port the stock WG. This will give you safer more controlled boost.

Now onto the fuel. Upgraded injectors are always nice because it opens you up to more room in the future. Running a larger fuel pump (mainly because the stockers are old, not because they can't handle 10psi...FD rx7s use the same fuel pump at 10psi from the factory) is a good idea..walbro 255 is the standard upgrade. If you do up your injectors, i'd suggest a fuel controller such as the S-AFC. The HKS F-Con is a better one, but more expensive. If you don't want to upgrade your injectors, the fuel controller will let you push the duty cycle of your stockers to support 10psi..but may cause premature wear on the injector.

Finally, and ECU upgrade isn't required, but would honestly be the easiest plug & play to higher boost. The RTek unit is the most common.

Sorry for being so long winded...

14psi is useless on a stock turbo FYI.....

We've pushed a TC04 Turbo from a galant to 20psi...destroyed the turbo,lol.. just because it'll register a higher level, doesn't mean you should run it there.

The stock turbo is efficient at and below 10psi... anything more, just upgrade it.. you'll love the low-end grunt you get!
