Can someone please give me the Readers' Digest version of boost control? I know I'm supposed to port the stock wastegate before I run a free exhaust so I don't get "boost creep." If I get a boost controller, do I still need to do this, or does the boost controller take care of it?

And where does the BOV fit in?

Okay, so I found some info at rx7.com. A pop-off valve will protect the engine from too much boost under open throttle, while a blow-off valve works to relieve boost spikes when you come off the throttle to shift. So I really need both.

Is the stock blow-off valve adequate?

ur still gonna want to port the wastegate, the boost controler can only control when the wastegate opens not how well its gonna work.

no you don't want a pop off vavle. yes the stock BOV is fine till 10-12psi.

either port your wastegate, or don't put a full exhuast / intake on.

Okay. So I've got the stock exhaust off all the way to the turbo. I've yanked the ABS pump to make some room, and I'm putting in a rebuilt master cylinder and the brake lines from a non-ABS car after this job is done. No more leaky ABS pump for me! I'll be happy if the brakes work after I put it all back together.

Next step is to pull the turbo for the purpose of porting the wastegate. It would be nice if I could see more of it. The air box is next on my list of things to get out of the way, followed by the heat shield thingie they've got the turbo covered up with. With any luck, I'll have the car back on the road in a month.

Is there anything else I should consider while I've got this thing all apart?

Oh, and one more thing: Why is my HKS downpipe a couple inches longer than the stock precat and midpipe? I'm thinking something is gonna have to get cut.

Of course, if I never put a cat-back on it, I guess it'll be fine. I wonder how loud it will be.....?

I swear I've laid them out side by side, and the HKS is like two inches longer. I'll take a pic when I get home tonight. The curve and the holes in the flange and the general shape is right, it's just longer!

WTF?
