[quote name='firstgen13b' date='Apr 18 2005, 08:05 PM']how many people on this forum have blown an Apex seal on a non-turbo model?

my 88 GXL is running on one rotor. i want to know if is possile that it has a bad apex seal or if the is just too much carbon build up on the apex seals.

i have sea foam and water running through it to steam it and it still runs like crap.

thanks,

Nathan

i blew my apex seal about a year ago on my 86 GXL . . . man was i pissed . . . that was the first time i had ever had that happen to me . . . and from my experience , i think its pretty obvious . . . all these guys saying that the can still drive and stuff , i dunno , but i guess every case is different . . . so ya , i was turning on my car and the motor turned over and i just heard a nast crack sound and the motor shook . . . i was like , WTF ? . . . then i had to pop start the car , and once i did , i could tell right away that sumthing was up , the car was shakey , it sounded different , and it lossed a **** load of power . . . but i guess the reason some people experience different things is because , the seals might bust in different ways , like mine broke of and got caught in the rotar as it was turning and dragged it along the housings and destroyed my housings, it was horrible , i have sum pics of my old housing , if u want to see it , let me know , and ill post it . . . so ya , test ur compression first of all , than other possibilities would be to check fuel injectors, fuel filter , fuel pump , fuel pressure, ignition , your coils/ignitors , air filter , intake , and u alrady checked cats , so ya , its not that . . .. . . . . and if it is an apex seal , when and if you do rebuild, get some 2mm RACE SEALS . . . even if ur not planning on racing , theyre nice, they last way way more than the stock ones and cost a little bit more than the stock ones . . . thats probably like the best thing for ur rebuild . . . . u could buy a used motor , but it will only end up blowing a seal again before you would on a rebuild with RACE SEALS . . . . .ive done all my work with ROTARY SHACK , the hes fucken bad ass , and cheap too . . .check him out. .. . www.rotaryshack.com . . . https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683827.gif

well the GSL-SE i had was dead smooth about there too, but the compression on the rear rotor was about 60ish all the way around, it still ran and drove great, it just had a bit less power then it should, altho it could still do a nice burn out https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif alway's go thru the small and cheap stuff first if you dont know what the problem is, that'll save you money and a headache if you do something big then find out it was clogged injectors or a bad sensor or something stupid like that... i did the same thing, i spent $130 or so on parts when mine wouldnt start, replaced pump, filter, couple other things, and then i found out i was out of gas the whole time https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif
