Ok, so the other day after the car sat for nearly 3 months i start it up.. take it easy, try to get out all the cob webs, etc..

before i changed the oil or anything i took it for a spin. Seemed to be going well so i got it into boost a little, about 3lbs... when i got to iluvmy88's house we look under the hood to find oil all over the drivers side of the car. Well we couldnt figure out where it came from, so we put more oil in and off i went back to my house. Well i cleaned it up, etc.. then took the turbo off for other reasons.. lol.. tonight we put everything back together and i took it out for a spin. A short cruise, turned up everything being normal. So i take a longer cruise, this time getting into about 7lbs of boost. Well right after i did that i pulled over to check if oil spit out. Sure enough it did. So i drive home ... (and btw: were not talking a little oil.. i mean total soakage!) And examine it a little closer. Find out the oil is shooting out of the oil filler neck vent! Then i look at my turbo, and there is oil seeping out all over. My question is this.. did i blow my oil seals? The car did sit for 3 months, so its quite possible. But has anyone seen anything like this that WASNT blown oil seals?

Thanks!

i think it might be like a plugged pcv or something. if you pressureize the oil pan it will shoot oil everywhere

sidewinderx7 10-03-2003 11:59 AM

think that would cause it to burst out the turbo too?

j9fd3s 10-03-2003 12:11 PM

yep, it will come out the easiest places. it also can do this if its overfilled

*crosses fingers*

i'll go out and check in a minute. I know the pcv on the oil filler neck is vented to the air, and oil shot out of it big time ... but its been vented to the air for along time with no problem. I will check the other one.

when my pcv was clogged my car smoked like mad. People would be like "hey!!! Your car is on fire!!!"

....ah good times

shake it, it should rattle.

Is the PCV right there on the rats nest, next to the oil filler neck? If so, it is no longer on his car. LOL But it wasn't on my car, or ECKO1980's car, and we have never had any problems. With Sidewinder's car, it must have spit out a good quart of oil.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 10-04-2003 07:02 PM

Ok, we have this nipple, in pic below (pic is of my car though), on his car vented to the open air, and the nipple on the oil filler neck is venting to the open air. But he is squirting oil out of those two nipples. How could the crankcase be getting pressurized if both of these nipples are venting to the open air? Also, everything has been hooked up lke this for the last 6 - 9 months, and it has just started to do this in the last week or two, and it only seems to do it when he is boosting. Oh, and his oil level is at full, not overfilled. Anyone got any ideas on how or why it is doing this. Thanks!

Take the oil filler cap off and go for another drive. If it doesn't blow all that oil out I'd say you have some serious blowby. Right now I just have a hose running from that nipple to the bottom of the car and I get some oil out but not a quart like you guys are saying.

7mech 10-05-2003 11:02 AM

Ok. I can now solve your problem. I have that same nipple on my 90 TII. That nipple was originally connected to a vacuum line that ran through the rats nest and ended at the check valve on the stock TID. You can either attatch a catch can to it or just run a vacuum line to a check valve and run another line from it to the TID. This should sovle your problem. Let me know how it goes.

BTW it's normal for it to let oil out if it's vented to the atmosphere.

Trust me, there is nothing normal about the amount of oil comming out of the 2 nipples. The first time it happened, I would say that his car spit out about a quart of oil. It was all over the engine bay. I have the oil stain on my drivway to prove it.

So does anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? Please help!

if you cap both or have both open you will get tons of oil smoke...i know i did........cap one only
