I haven't drained my coolant in awhile, I have autocross this weekend, and I know it's going to over heat like a bitch (it's been creeping up in traffic). What's the best mixture for cooling? It's hot here, I anticipate it hitting 90 this weekend, no worry of freezing. Mainly, does our car need coolant/antifreeze for anti-corrosion, or lubricating the pump? I've heard just distilled water and water wetter cools best, but I don't know where I got that from.



I also need to put my radiator panels back on, I'll get to that as well.

In sunny FL I run this on my turbo and non turbo setups.



1pt water wetter or equivalent

1pt - 2pt glycol

Fill with distilled water

16psi cap

put your radiator shrouds on! if you have to compensate with additives to prevent over heating your cooling system isn't working properly and/or is being over worked. ethelyne glycol is used for all those things you said, but it also raises boiling point. so make sure to mix at least 30% or so. try to figure out what the problem is before you run the risk of overheating.

mazdacomp recomends a 70/30 water/antifreeze mix when you're racing, and a 10/90 when its being stored. in like road racing you cant run antifreeze anyways, its slippery

Water has mad cooling properties glycol does not nor does water wetter.



Water wetter works by dissipating the water and allowing it to farther cool more.



Glycol keeps freezing points of water lower and raises the boiling point slightly. But so does your pressure cap.



@ 10psi 33% antifreeze mix boils at ~120*C

@ 10psi 55% antifreeze mix boils at ~125*C

@ 15psi 33% antifreeze mix boils at ~125*C

@ 15psi 55% antifreeze mix boils at ~129*C



The only time I run 30% glycol is in the winter. And I only run it in summer to lubricate the water pump.

here in FL I run 20% coolant/antifreeze

80% distilled water

one bottle of water wetter

That seem to be the absloute best mixture for our cars



But... I also npt fitting block off for the water pump and gutted the thermostat

no radiator shroud but I have a electric fan that doesn't do half as good as the

stock fan. none the less I got no more overheating problems



also block off the coolant hoses going to the intake manifold
