well I think I need a new clutch'pressure plate. My car will not squel em goin into second even if I double-clutch at 8k. All it does is just put you in the seat and slip like a motherfugra https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif. I was wondering if anyone would like to give some insite to this situation.....i.e. does your car get it in second(this is a 91' n/a w/ portwork and a full exhaust) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

jcyrx7 05-06-2003 07:06 PM

I forgot, the clutch I want to purchase is the act 6 Puck (ZX2-HDR6) clutch with Heavy Duty Pressure Plate along with a stainless steel clutch line for better feel. I would also appreciate any comments on this clutch/pressure plate combo....................hopefully a squeling second will come a lot sooner than i expect https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

pengaru 05-06-2003 07:07 PM

if your rpm's increase, but your wheel speed does not, with your clutch engaged, it is slipping.

replace the clutch if this is the case, or maybe you have some **** on it, mine slipped a while ago when the front trans seal leaked and managed to get the disc soaked with oil.

this is the clutch kit

along with the cable

pengaru 05-06-2003 07:10 PM

that clutch is likely overkill for your NA...

I've used the racing beat street/strip clutch and pressure plate setup with no problems, in combination wth the aluminum flywheel.

ECKO1980 05-06-2003 07:17 PM

1. you have no clue what "double clutching" is and 2. your trying to spin tires into second why??? slower ETs?? balder tires?? impress the girlies??

jcyrx7 05-06-2003 07:18 PM

does your car bark it in second

jcyrx7 05-06-2003 07:18 PM

exactly

jcyrx7 05-06-2003 07:18 PM

and yes i do know what double-clutching is

jcyrx7 05-06-2003 07:22 PM

by the way i'm not talkin about major spinnage in second. i'm talkin about a little chirp my car refuses to do that

djgiantrobot 05-06-2003 07:35 PM

but why?! get a full face clutch and heavy duty pressure plate, the 6 puck is a little harsh. If you want an overly agressive clutch just to chirp 2nd, go ahead. You're the one that has to drive it everyday.

jcyrx7 05-06-2003 07:48 PM

well i know that the 6-puck will be a little harsh. but i just want to make sure that every bit of power that my n/a makes gets to the ground......................it's not the most powerful thing(I wish I could of got ahold of a tII)

pengaru 05-06-2003 07:54 PM

it's still overkill and will probably be unecessarily harsh on your drivetrain components.

you don't need it, a new full face performance clutch (with damper springs !) with a performance pressure plate that has good clamping force is all you need... also make sure the flywheel gets machined or you replace it when you do the job.

http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset.asp?Pa...artNumber=12514

that for instance would be fine.

this pressure plate has not given me any problems yet either:

I have some pics of that clutch disc, pressure plate, and the aluminum flywheel here:

With porting and full exhaust an upgraded street/strip clutch would be best honestly. If you haven't driven a puck clutch, then don't jump to one on a street car...you will rearend somebody. They really do get all the power to the ground, but takes a lot of getting used to and is more then just a little harsh.

I'm not trying to bust on you in the least...but I've driven numerous different race cars that use puck clutches, and it is crazy on the street...also, you shouldn't need to double clutch to hit 2nd..just shift at 6K and pop the clutch out..works everytime. What kind of porting do you have done? Perhaps your torque curve is pushed up higher, or moved lower...you need to find the sweet spot..every car has it...

my fd can chirp 1-2-3-4 gears.................................. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

TYSON 05-06-2003 11:08 PM

It has to. 4 second gear changes n' all. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png

Geoffman72 05-06-2003 11:26 PM

Well while clamping force is nice, that is overkill. And if you like your drivetrain you wont ever try to chirp into second.

Instead slip the clutch as fast as you can without making the tires bark.

Blink 05-06-2003 11:38 PM

put your car in 4th gear on an uphill.. put the pedal to the floor.. if the RPM's rise faster than the Speedo your cluch is slipping.

i'd just recommend an HD not a puck clutch.. after driving 3 different puck clutches never will i run one.. they suck ass.

Double clutching is uesd in OLDDDDD ass trucks and cars, push in clutch take it out of 2nd let clutch out, push in clutch and stick it in 3rd and let it out again. or its done in race cars with synchro-less transmisions. you my friend have neither. Accelerating in 2nd pushing on the clutch reving and dumping the clutch is called driving like a dumb ****. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

Um, he has one of those spinny things that bolts onto the exhaust, on a street ported engine. He can spin them in third. Now quit being rude to other members you FNG!

Oh, as for the clutch, it's just a NA, a 6 puck clutch is a big over kill. But hey, you should know that now, cause everyone else has said that too.

djgiantrobot 05-07-2003 01:09 AM

i've seldom come across any manual car with a healthy clutch that couldn't chirp 2nd if you tried. Double clutching is useful in cars like mine that have a bad 5th gear syncho. When you double clutch, you are synchronizing the input shaft with the engine by matching revs with the clutch out the shifter in nuetral.

ILUVMY88CABRIO 05-07-2003 01:11 AM

But still pointless on any modern car with a healthy tranny.

Maybe you were granny shifting, and not double clutching like you should...

RX7Aggie 05-07-2003 02:07 AM

so much hate. here's my input, i have a 91 pressure plate with a 93 clutch (my mechanic did it, dont ask me how). it's stiff, real stiff, i have to slip like crazy in 1st and even more in 2nd just to make things smooth.

it's even more of a pain when your sus bushings are old, along with the stock shocks. if you suspension is stock and worn, a stiff clutch/pressure plate combo is going to shake your car more than oprah walking down your street.

trust me, it's taken 6 months of driving my car just to make it feel like an automatic. as for the chirping, i do it. if a drop clutch gives you quicker times off the line, i dont see why it wont help going into 2nd. look at some of these people's videos at the track; i notice most have a distinctive chirp when going into 2nd.

i wouldn't waste my time revving between 1st and 2nd though, you're going to just kill your times. if you chirp b/c you shift so quick your engine doesn't have time to spin down and your clutch grabs so hard you're tires spin and you tend to have a heavy foot, well that's one thing. but doing in on purpose, that's stupid and a waste of speed/time.

jcyrx7 05-07-2003 03:33 PM

well thanks for the input guys...........the ones who actually gave advice and weren't being dicks about it. i guess i'll get the street/strip combo now, but i'll have to wait awhile cuz' the funds are low(16 and workin at checkers)

CrashFactory 05-07-2003 05:10 PM

Mine can too. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Well. I got fourth once or twice.. but I can't do it on purpose..

Yea, that's when I knew I needed a new clutch for my FC..

hahahahahhahahaha.. Fast and the Furious has clouded all the youngn's minds.. "Granny shiftin, not double clutchin like you should" it was just a Movie script.. don't believe it..

Anyways, I had to double clutch my Masda truck somtimes cuz the gears were hard to put in.. but if not then just pop the muthafawka.. Feathering the clutch works much better than just popping .. How do I know.. Cuz I gained .4 seconds when I did that at the track..
