how hard is it to change my apex seals on my 87 turbo 2
|
Well you have got to pull your engine, and then pull it all apart. I don't think the changing of the apex seals is that big o a deal, it's just all of the work that you've got to do to get to the seals that would be a bitch.

Did you do compression test to make sure it is your apex seals?

Check your compression, it could be fine. It could just be a simple fix. Replacing your apex seals will meen that you'll pretty much have to rebuild the engine at a cost of $300-$800 just for the parts. Another way to check is to pull your leading spark plug (lower spark plug) from the front rotor housing, turn the engine over by hand, and listen for 3 wooshes of air per revolution, then do the same to the rear rotor housing. If you don't hear it 3 times for every complete revolution then you have a bad apex seal. And like 13BAce said, breaking an apex seal normally causes damage to other part of the engine like the rotor housings, the rotors, and the turbo.
