Whats up all!? I'm new to the rotary thing and I have a couple of questions...

I have a 87/88 RX-7.. I'm not sure exactly what it is b/c there are so many different things about the car that i'm not sure what year or even the model it is. It is a turbod rotary I know for sure!

One of my questions is that it has NA guages on the car but the temp gauge and fuel gauge don't work and to make things even more odd, the Volt gauge acts like a boost gauge where when boost hits the gauge shoots up and when you let off the gas it goes back down...Any suggestions? I haven't had the chance to take apart the dash to see if there are any wires hanging, but I will soon.

One more for now, the brakes aren't the greatest in the world, it almost seems like they need to be bleed but the guy that I bought it from said it was the brake booster (he didn't know much about cars so i'm not sure if he was right) any way to tell for sure whats wrong?

Sorry for the life story but any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!

Chris

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like someone didn't know what the hell they were doing.

If you can take pics and post them up it would be to your advantage.

Thanks for the Welcome! It seems like a great place here!

I'm going to try to take pics really soon, my camera gave up on me so I'm prob just going to take pics with my phone.

I'm really hoping that I don't have to do too much electrical work, if I do have to do a lot then, aftermarket gauges here I come!!!

It looks like whoever you bought the car from, jerry rigged everything. What is the VIN number on the front dashboard? Or even on the door jam, we can tell you the year of the car by the VIN.

Welcome to the fun.

That seems to be a relatively early '87 factory turbo car. FC332 Your's was the 5,125th car after mine out of Hiroshima. The date on mine is 3/86.

The car itself sounds like a nightmare though. Why the Hell does it have NA gauges in it?

I wish you the best of luck with it.

WOW! That's awsome that you can tell me about the car by reading the numbers! I know the J means that it was made in Japan but thats about it. Thanks for the help!

As for the gauges....I have no clue why they were swapped but I'm about to go on ebay now and get some turbo gauges. Do you think this will fix my Coolant and Fuel gauge? If it doesn't fix it, where do I run new wires to so I can make the gauge work. If I have to get an aftermarket gauge, thats fine, the temp gauge is my biggest concern at the moment, the fuel can wait.

Thanks again for you help!!!

I dont think that the 88 TII's came with boost gauges in the stock cluster. Just buy a 3 gauge a-pillar pod, throw a coolant, fuel, and boost gauge in there and deal with the stupid NA gauges.

I could be wrong about the TII's coming with boost gauges in the cluster.

Oh, The FC3S after the J in the vin, of course is the chassis code. You will see references to the 2nd Gen RX-7 being called FC,FC3S, etc.

Have fun with the electrical problems. Pictures would help alot also.

Here are some pics...I tried to edit the first post so you wouldn't have to scroll down but here they are anyways. Let me know what you think!

Is this an aftermarket turbo? It looks really old to be aftermarket...
