https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif Well my second Mazda rebuilt engine bit the big one today...with only 18k. Did the famous carbon lock and there goes the farm...The first motor lost the front rotor coolant seal and kept flooding the front rotor....only 12k on it.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png However Mazda replaced the first motor under the warranty, 1 year unlimited mileage and are prorating the second motor gonna charge me only half the labor cost. They feel their motors should last a little longer than 7 months and 8 months respectivly.. I guess once you get addicted to the old rotor nothing can deter you.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Also the dealer is going to call me when Mazda gets an RX8 in town and let me DROOL on it...mabe even drive it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

Arent these N/A motors?

Something is very wrong there.

agrillo 01-24-2003 04:38 PM

Yep , I got my first 7 in 83 and put 147k on it with no problems, I even raced it back then. Altogether I have had 6 Mazda rebuilts in to 7s I have owned in the past 4 years...I took 3 to get my 84 going and this will be the 3rd in my 88...

Rob x-7 01-24-2003 04:50 PM

either you or whoever is rebuilding these engines is doing something very very wrong.

j9fd3s 01-24-2003 05:15 PM

the mazda remans arent very good, carbon lock is super rare though

its not....trust me

that is complete bullshit that motors are dying that often..are you sure these ppl arent ******* with you...putting glass beads in motors,(seen it done to a ferrari) are you breaking them in right?

Apex13B 01-24-2003 08:02 PM

also...that stuff about "dont be afraid of 9000 rpm" is bullshit..maybe you are doing that?

1Revvin7 01-24-2003 08:36 PM

ugh oh I have a fac rebuilt! well i only paid 1300 for it w/o core, and its got new housings on it so im all good https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

vosko 01-24-2003 08:59 PM

remans are pretty good in my experience. they are not bad engines at all!

something is wrong... shouldn't be going through N/A engines this fast.....

1Revvin7 01-24-2003 11:03 PM

how would that even occur? Driving it like a grandma??

'79rx7 01-24-2003 11:05 PM

he said "his first 7 in 83 with 147K on it no problems but i used to race then" maybe the problem is he doesn't rod it enough, but carbon build up in 18K, extremely unlikely, but i'm no expert

sleeperRX7 01-24-2003 11:12 PM

i seriously feel your pain as my motor is fubar and snafu at the moment, hope you fix it, hope i can fix mine too, later man good luck :bigok:

My 83 12A had carbon lock

Apex13B 01-25-2003 04:12 PM

i had carbon lock about 4 months ago right before i join this glorious brotherhood of sevenness....now i redline the motor every 3-5 weeks through 1st gear

Leetheslacker 01-25-2003 04:19 PM

My n00bness is showing but, what is carbon lock and how does it happen?

agrillo 01-27-2003 09:53 AM

:smirk: Naaa I enjoy the preformance to well to let any carbon form in the engine.....seems what ever locked up the engine once it was cleared one apex seal was broken.. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif On my 84 it took 3 motors just to get it out of the shop.. The first went 20 miles and started blowing coolant out the overflow. The second was damaged in shipment, they didnt notice until the motor was in and they were connecting cooling lines. The third went in fine and ran 30k until I sold it and the jerk that bought it totaled it.

I am hoping my 88 will run like it is supposed to I sure miss driving it . Luckly I have a spare car, it has pistons but since it is a 1967 chevy. classic I can justify driving a boinger..... :bigthumg:
