Another clutch question
#1
I just put in a new clutch and I think the disc may be chattering. Can someone explain to me what the clutch disc is doing when it chatters? What causes chatter? Can it be fix(inexpensively) or is it irreversable? Does it cause the disc to wear quicker? Can it lead to other major problems? Basically what I am asking is can I still drive and race on a clutch that is doing this? Thanks alot for all the help with this pain in the *** clutch.

It sure does Johann. When the car is in nuetral I can here a chattering sound coming from the clutch. When I depress the clutch pedal the noise lessens but is still there. When I put it in gear it goes away altogether. Otherwise the clutch acts the way it is supposed to. Any ideas.

If it makes noise with the clutch out it can't be the throwout bearing.... if your clutch is properly adjusted the throwout bearing isn't in play when the clutch pedal is out, if it is you have about a week before the thing is pieces.

Well if the thing should be in pieces in about a week then I must not have clutch chatter. I've had it in for 2 weeks now and nothing has happened. Maybe it is a normal sound my car makes. I probably never noticed it before. Thanks Phins.
