Annoying starting habit....

I am having troubles getting my series 4 N/A to keep running when i first start it up on a cold morning. Just wondering if there are any solutions?

I can crank it over and it starts fine... but after the revs drop (a few seconds) the car will want to stall. Normally it will almost stall, jump up to around 1200rpm, nearly stall, jump up again, then usually on the third time it'll die. After the engines warm theres no troubles at all.... Any ideas?

Not really a major problem, just one of those annoying little ones. :newburn:

Do you still have the fast idle cam and thermowax?

Would that have anything to do with adjusting the TPS sensor?

The TPS could be causing trouble, but that's usually accompanied by a surging idle upon start-up. The fast idle cam keeps the idle raised to 1200-1500 RPM until the car is warmed up. When I disabled mine about 2 years ago when I was using the stock ECU the engine would always stall when very cold.

What's funny is that now I still don't have any of that stuff, but it doesn't stall with the Wolf 3D.

I agree with you Ace but it would be a good idea to check for TPS adjustment afterwards if everything failed. I've seen some mysterious problems cause by TPS. You should also check the TPS plug, sometimes a bad contact there causes problems. ???

As i understand it... when u start the car, u can hit the accelerator once before cranking to engage some form of fast idle, but i've got a remote start which means i can't hit the accelerator to engage it.



Are the fast idle cam and thermowax 2 different parts? or do they do the same job?



I can get it to idle fast (1500rpm) if i'm sitting in it by either 1.tapping the accelerator before cranking or 2. making it idle at 1500rpm for a few seconds then letting go and it'll stay idling fast like it should...



i just thought it *should* be able to keep itself going when its cold once it has actually started

The fast idle cam and thermowax work together. IT sounds like it has something to do with them because they're part of the throttle linkage.
